So next year I will need to travel around the world for several weeks, and before I get the agent to start planning legs for me, I thought that the brains trust here might be able to help with how to maximise VFF benefits when doing this.

I'm currently Plat but will drop to Gold before taking this trip. Aim is to at least requalify for gold, as well as to maximise access to luggage allowance, lounge, priority entry, and if possible VFF points or cash upgrades (I have 150k VFF points now, and another 50k due) likely from economy to at least premium economy.

My itinterary will be US west coast - US east coast - UK - Portugal - Netherlands - Sweden - Australia.... OR the other way round, ie it likely won't matter if I go E-W or W-E. I can also shuffle the order of the 4 Euro legs. This trip is paid for and I am not likely to be seeking the lowest possible flight prices, in terms of long layovers or 3rd tier airlines.

I understand the need to book as many legs as possible on VA codes, ie United to/from Aus - US - UK, and likely Qatar back to Aus, or vice versa. I have always flown SQ and prefer them to all others, but I don't know if there are any/many VA flight numbers on SQ anymore. As I said, want to maximise status benefits, too. eg I have travelled on US domestic United flights as VFF Gold and received the usual status benefits eg no fee for checked luggage.

I have a couple of months or more to plan this, so please - hit me with suggestions!
