With all the talk of BA cabin crew going on strike - can anyone help me with an answer to a hypothetical?

I am flying out of Venice to Gatwick next month and if the flight is cancelled I understand that BA will generally offer a refund and or try to arrange another flight.

I have forward obligations on that day and need to travel either that day or the next.

I am using (for the first time)the complimentary Travel Insurance offered through Westpac (Zurich). Am I able to book a flight on the day with another carrier to complete my trip and have the insurance company pay the difference between that booking and any refund recieved?

I tried contacting the company for this advice but was treated like a fool (those that know me might agree) and told to worry about it when it happened.

Believe it or not, I called Zurich 15 minutes ago asking the same question (also re: Westpac credit card).

I'm travelling SYD-BKK on an award Business Class ticket on BA. I was told that (even though the strike isn't confirmed), should the flight be cancelled, I am able to book another Business Class ticket on another airline and they will cover the cost (ulimited coverage).
