Strategy to obtain US Amex

Did you get a reference number or email ?
I went back to the previous page (from the 'scan here to capture your id on your phone' page), and it just said 'thank you, we're assessing', but no ref and no email...
No I didn’t but you don’t need it. If you call they’ll locate your application with your ITIN (they’ll ask for your SSN, just provide your ITIN).

If you already have accounts with them, you can check application status in the app.

If not, there is an automated line you can call to check status. Pretty sure if it says you’ll have an update in 7-10 days it’s going to be declined so you need to get through to a human operator (to get a human press 0) to ask to provide more information or to ask for recon.

Either way you’re going to need to speak to a human to get an upload link for your passport.

Have a search around Reddit for more guidance on the phone lines, application process and recon guidance. I found it pretty helpful when going through mine.

Just tried applying for CSP (first time Chase card)

Second page of application gets you to try and take a photo of either a state ID or drivers license (no other options). I tried using my passport, but it's looking for a barcode, so won't scan.

What's the suggested approach from here ?
Did you use a VPN or a private/incognito browser window? If so, that may have caused the issue.

I recommend contacting their support team and asking them to send you a link to upload your ID documents. They may initially tell you that your application has been declined, but I suggest calling again if needed until you reach someone who is able to assist.

The same thing happened to one of my friends. His application was initially declined, but after speaking with the support team, he was able to provide his ID documents and his original application was eventually approved.

Hopefully they can do the same for you.

Check out post 11689 :

It’s a faff - you need to do it a day before the amount is due - but the plus side of that is you also rollover any minutes etc.

Click on My Telo and then make manual payment - you shoudl then be able to choose your Tello dollars - it also means you don’t pay taxes so you save just over $1 each month too - just don’t forget to do it the day before the renewal day - I believe you can do it the day of, if you do it before 8pm ET - but double check that
thanks, are you referring to the dashboard, i can renew of $5 plus taxes but no option for making a payment unless it's only available the day before.

Well this time (compared with Feb when I used a commercial US VPN) I applied from my Aus IP address, as I assumed this was what had triggered the fraud alert.

After a few transfers, it turns out this application was with the Fraud team (again !)

This time, the Fraud team couldn't use my Tello number, or my GV number (neither number "met their requirements") to send me a one time code, so that was that - told me he couldn't proceed further and to visit a branch

Really don't know what else I could do differently, given that Tello works for my Amex and C1 accounts...

Is this your first chase ?
Second Application for GT

In the thread, I could see a few people who GT multiple times. How long roughly do I have to wait to apply for another Amex credit card through GT?
Someone a few posts above mentioned their second GT was approved 3 months after the first .

Ultra or Boost might be worth looking into at $10 p/month and get an eSIM?

Ultra could be $3 a month.

That’s odd. Tello worked for me, even when dealing with the fraud team.

More generally on the topic of VPNs, the commercial VPNs are not great. If you’re looking to use banking services (or even Rakuten which initially shut me down for being outside the US), you’ll need to find a way to access a residential IP proxy.

You can find these online or alternatively, using some roaming data on something like Tello should also work.

Can you activate them in oz ?

Just do Tello. $9 a month is nothing vs how much value you can get out of the US cards. Don't focus on the small stuff but just follow the steps and once you're comfortable starting making your own adjustments as required

Just do Tello
The issue is that Chase just refused to use my Tello number (which I’ve had for a year and have been using with C1 without issue)

If they are starting to insist on post paid numbers only, that’s becoming ridiculous

I also don’t understand the thinking behind insisting on sending a one time code to a potential new client’s number. They don’t have that number on file previously verified, so how does sending a code to a random number actually verify anything ?

They maybe able to see some ownership data.

Normally, if you are on a postpaid plan, your carrier may have your real name and identity information on file because you usually need to verify your identity, and sometimes pass a credit check to open the account. If the phone number information matches the name on the application, it helps verify your identity in a way. But it's not really neccessary as they can still verify you using something else.

Prepaid is less reliable. The number could still be linked to a previous owner, or there may not be enough verified information attached to it. So if a prepaid number works, you are very lucky.

I have Google Voice and T-Mobile prepaid, and they never work with Chase verification, even though they work fine for 2FA. Reverse lookup already shows my name on both numbers so that isn't enough for verification. I used Google Voice for 7-8 Chase apps with no issue.

They also work fine for Capital One 2FA, but there was one part where they didn’t work. I believe it was when I tried to get a virtual card. Capital One may have used a similar phone verification service to Chase for that step.

I've got a GV number but I ported it from a US Mobile number - so far so good but only Amex and HSBC to date and it seems like it's more C1 that are the problem!

They want to send the code to the number used on application and hence the legitimate applicant .
