Strategy to obtain US Amex

I will have a look at HSBC.

Since I just did a NAB credit limit increase within the last day or so, I will need to wait until after my holidays in July, I am off to Pakistan for a month.

My credit score will drop from the NAB limit increase - I will look to switch that over to the Rewards Signature Card as the limit is $15k.

I will then look at trying to get a HSBC card maybe later on, it may help me in the USA as you said, just trying to build the credit if I don't already have something in the US already from my past visits.

You need to read this entire thread.

You don’t need a HSBC Australia credit card. That will not help you getting into the US at all. You need to look into getting HSBC Premier status in Australia which requires nothing more than a basic bank account.

Your past US bank accounts will mean nothing. Bank accounts do not help build credit in any case. Your Verizon history might carry over into your credit file but it seems like it is a relatively insignificant history so it probably will not help you meaningfully.

This new executive order seem like going to effect ITIN and CC stuff.

“(vi) the use of an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) to obtain credit products or open depository accounts where the applicant lacks verified lawful immigration status. Although an ITIN facilitates tax compliance, its use in lieu of a Social Security number or valid work-authorized visa may be identified as a risk factor requiring enhanced due diligence to ensure the account is not being utilized to facilitate the unlawful employment of unauthorized aliens.”

Bit of a side note - but does anyone know a way to buy gift cards online with a Supermarket MCC? Keen to try and top up my Chase points at 3x on the CSP but it looks like the Coles and Woolworths portals are all coded as general merchandise and Woolworths never supported the CSP for Everyday Pay

I used CSP for online order at Coles and WW And it coded as 3x online Grocery

Don't MS on US cards - it's the fastest way to get shut down.

What part of furiousmango’s post suggested MS?

The reference to Everyday Pay to me indicates that the post has nothing to do with MS, they’re just looking for a way to get the grocery multiplier (similar to the way the Americans use the Kroger/Ralphs apps to pay instore to get the online grocery multiplier).

If you're planning on buying Oz GC with US card, you will never be SD. Spend as much as you want. Many people have bought Woolies from QMP that still codes as airline but I think they have reduced the number of QF points you can get from it now. APP gets 5x on the site

I think this is potentially MS and US card issuers will act adversely against it.

I think the issue is running up "out of character" expenses. It's gotten harder. I think there's a limit to how much this can be used before it's curtailed under suspicion of abuse. Means that these potential "bonanza" categories
