I will have a look at HSBC.
Since I just did a NAB credit limit increase within the last day or so, I will need to wait until after my holidays in July, I am off to Pakistan for a month.
My credit score will drop from the NAB limit increase - I will look to switch that over to the Rewards Signature Card as the limit is $15k.
I will then look at trying to get a HSBC card maybe later on, it may help me in the USA as you said, just trying to build the credit if I don't already have something in the US already from my past visits.
You need to read this entire thread.
You don’t need a HSBC Australia credit card. That will not help you getting into the US at all. You need to look into getting HSBC Premier status in Australia which requires nothing more than a basic bank account.
Your past US bank accounts will mean nothing. Bank accounts do not help build credit in any case. Your Verizon history might carry over into your credit file but it seems like it is a relatively insignificant history so it probably will not help you meaningfully.
