Strategy to obtain US Amex

Interesting. I use Roamless when I travel for data. As a new service they are offering subscription numbers (real numbers). Presently, they are only offering 3 numbers, Aussie, UK & Canadian

I use TextNow for US Amex verification codes. In the interests of keeping things simple & consolidating, does anyone know if US Amex treats Canadian numbers the same given that they are both +1. ie, could I change to a Canadian number & still receive verification codes?

(No offence to either country intended😉 - question not intended to be as ignorant as it may sound)
Do you need q phone to receive Amex verification ? I have always received them by email only .

They usually have the option IME.
Need is probably a strong word, but it is convenient. And occasionally, for verification, if you phone them (which i have done in the past) they call you back on your registered (US) number to check its you; they’re then happy to revert to the number you called them on

But yes, ….. convenience, is the primary objective

I received 3 starting with an 8 as I mentioned .
According to google. IRS has started issuing 8 as ITIN due to running out of 9 numbers.

Anyways I will prefer to have a starting 8 ITIN. Alot of sites that rejects ITINs such as BofA. Accepts ITINs starting with 8 as it thinks it's an SSN.

Not sure why you are complaining about it being an 8. If they think it's a SSN, just let them think that way. It's to your benefit.

Any idea why it didn't work with Chase? Did they give you a specific rejection reason, or what exactly went wrong?

Even if Chase thinks its a SSN, thats not a reason to decline an app especially if you have all the docs.

They're also requested an SSN card from me when I provided an ITIN during my initial card app. App was approved after providing the ITIN letter instead of the SSN card that they're requested.

Hi All, have a question regarding filing taxes for an ITIN.

Background:
I applied for my ITIN through CAA on 09/25 and received it around 12/25. My agent prepared my 2024 tax return, including some business expenses (a computer purchase) and a few hundred dollars to cover the tax, and they paid the tax at the end. When I received the ITIN in 12/25, a few weeks later, the IRS also sent another bill for a penalty for late filing, as it was filed after 15/04/25. I paid that as well, and I also filed for the 2025 tax season, so my IRS current tax filing year is recorded as 24 and 25, both filled and paid.

After that, I applied for my P2 ITIN on 01/26 and received it on 02/26. So, for this ITIN, if the agent is filing the tax, it would be for this 2025 tax season, and therefore there shouldn't be any late-filing issues, unlike mine, I assume. But since 02/26, I've checked the IRS daily, and there still haven't been any filings recorded on my P2 IRS, so I'm not sure whether they've already filed the tax to obtain the ITIN or haven't, in which case I should file for this 2025 period, as I don't want to double-file and might cause misaligned information with the CAA if they happened to do it

So my question is, do CAA agents usually have to file tax to get an ITIN? It has been 2 months since my P2 got an ITIN issued, and there is only 1 day left to file tax for this year. Should I file for my P2?

The CAA is not very responsive. They only respond when they ask for a scanned passport and information via email. I was really worried when I first applied with them, but the ITIN came at the end, so it's all good. They aren't very good with communication, and they didn't respond to my email queries on the other question before.

This is my findings from ChatGPT - information is just for reading purposes

You may or maynot find it suitable to your situation - But for me - I just earned Account Bonus with 1099 tax forms. Hence I looked into filing US Tax for my situation.

If you live in Australia (this is my case - most likely your case)
✅ Most common situation:
You are an Australian resident
Work was done in Australia (remote)
You are not a US citizen / green card holder
👉 Then:
❌ You generally DO NOT need to file a US tax return
✅ You DO need to declare the income in Australia to the Australian Taxation Office

Quick summary
Situation ---- What to do
No US tax withheld ---- Only report to ATO
US tax withheld ------ File US return to get refund
Worked in US physically ------ File US return

Yeah, I'm not sure if filling out the tax form helps with the credit card application, since it might show you have a record if they ask for Form 4506-C during the application. I was asked for it by 2 Amex applications recently and managed to get both approved after submitting the form for them, so I just want to double check if really need to filling tax

According to me => it's a NO. Whenever they asked for Form 4506-C during the application. I will not proceed.

You've submitted a 4056C and been approved? And only filed a few hundred in taxes?
I filled out $20 in gambling for my ITIN back in Jan initially just to keep it active, as people recommend that you do yearly. After that, I applied for "a few Amex applications" as I previously mentioned in this thread, but all came up with a 4506-C request. Initially, I let the application lapse, waited for a while, then reapply, but I still get the same message. So, I called them and said that I recently migrated to the US, so I don't have income. Can I use my Australian income instead? They said no, so the only route is to submit the 4506-C. so i just did it and do mentioned that they wont see anything or income get reported after a week I got both my application approved

How did you do this please? I am looking for a source to file my tax but FreeTaxUSA do not allow either ITIN or 1099 form for non-resident allien. I then tried MyExpaxTaxes but it's not free and expensive for my kind of Tax.
I use TaxAct and its cost money, I tried a few free ones but gave up after the complexity of the form and issues coming up during the filling so I just paid for TaxAct and use ChatGPT to assist me go through each page

I paid $30 I think

I have a SSN and my taxable income in Australia would be below the USA threshhold. I normally don't have to file. But I did this time with Free Tax USA just in case the Orange decides to send out stimulus payments. They did during Covid and I got lucky. You never know! People over there are not happy about the cost of living especially because of the war. I declared small income from recycling bottles and cans.
