Strategy to obtain US Amex

Agree - I have done my details via DocuPost multiple times - so far I trust them more than Qantas/Optus/Medibank etc

Is the danger with sending documents personally and directly from Australia the fact that it will become apparent that one is not a US resident ?

Also what sort of docs are they likely to request ? ID ? Bank statements ?

Not at all - docupost is legitimate service - The banks know you are sending AU passport - so no biggie in my opinion

For those interested in C1, I recommend VX then Venture when the sign up bonuses are good. Once you've held the Venture for 3-4 months, C1 will let you product change to S1. Saves you a slot if you're trying to get the C1 duo.
I’m interested in C1 but keep failing at the ID stage. They specifically want US Government issued ID. They won’t countenance my AU passport even though I tell them in a resident Alien.

How’ve you fared with this aspect?

There is info online about a hack wherein if your use USPS mail direction service , ID requirement will be met and C1 won’t request sane .

I'm not sure I want more people handling my doc's than needed.

Should have aimed for VX first. Have you tried the VX specific pre-approval?

Edit: Get Pre-Approved for a Capital One Credit Card | Capital One
Was pre-approved and accepted the offer for VX with this link with a massive limit. All these days I was trying with the link available on C1 website and was always pre-approved for the Savor card.
I have a Checking account with C1. Was a straight forward approval. Hopefully the card lands up at Torrance.
Was also interested in the Atmos card but guess will now wait so as to be able to spend the "minimum spend"

Datapoint my new card arrived in Mel from PE in approx 4 days via second cheapest PE options.
I probably would have been safe with that one but I was put off by the 14 day window. Mine arrived at DHL BNE and they have been sitting on it since morning.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to apply for a second US amex via GT etc if it’s been 4 months after the first GT .but without an ITIN or current open AU Amex ? And if so what is the methodology ?

Just applied for it last night and approved today. Complicated journey.

Applied via phone with ITIN. Immediately declined and was asked to wait for the letter. Contacted the recon(?)/fraud team which quickly verified that I applied and then the application was sent to the "Credit Analyst" which they'll transfer you to as well. They told me that I should call back the next morning.

Called and confirmed that I was approved. Will be expedited to me.

I've just cancelled my CIP and I'm going to take a break from Chase. Given that they've tightened up their lending I think I'll take this opportunity to apply/try some other cards.

Just an FYI, I heard that BoA might shut down those who's majority spend is foreign transactions but we'll have to see!
Do you have another card with BoA or a checking account?
I opened a checking a/c with them few months ago thinking of applying via phone option.
