Strategy to obtain US Amex

I've got a Citi AA Biz card, actually not 1 but 2 Citi AA Biz. I did 2 to dd on the SUB. If you are approved for the 2nd card before completing the minimum spend on the 1st card then you'll be eligible for the SUB on the 2nd card as well.

I got it both this year, 3 months apart. I had a bit under 4 yrs credit history when I applied for the 1st card.

Application was pretty straight forward. Went through the app online and went under review. Waited for them to send a letter which was a request for ITIN and passport. Fax that in, called them a few days later and was approved over the phone.

2nd app was even easier instant approval online.

Contrary to others experience. Citibank has been much easier to deal with compared to Chase and Barlays.

Have had no fraud alerts at all even on larger $2-3k transactions. (Learnt to not add the card to google pay and mostly just use the card online.)

I still haven't managed to get a Chase card approved even after many applications. They are PITA to deal with. Probably the worst bank.
Thanks for your DP. Yes I heard about the 2 cards method. However I got rejected multiple times. I'm at around under 1.5 years credit. Just hoping to know anyone get approval with that thin credit. Got checking account with them for 2 months now. Not sure if it helps.

I dont have a recent data point sorry. Out of interest what routes do Hawaiian provide value on?
The value lies in Alaska. So the plan was the transfer to Alaskan via Hawaiian via Amex before 30th Jun. I recently got SUB on US Amex Biz plat and this one is AU Biz Plat, so bit unsure if that could have been a possible issue.
Chatted to the agent confirmed the SUB and I meeting the qualifying spend. The agent was happy to file a formal compliant to expedite the investigation.

I had the same experience with your P2. Was shocked when transaction cleared and boom, points in account. Sorry ni recent DP
Yeah, that's why the concern. Amex AU is pretty good with crediting the SUB it's usually credited with the transaction that fulfills the qualifying spend.

How soon after annual fee posting did you downgrade? I assumed if you cancelled within 30 days of AF posting you got a full refund?
I left it a little late. They downgraded me to Green business card and charged pro rated difference. Glad they did that. I do have a credit on my Green business card. I’ll look to reallocate it to my other cards as their statements issue.

Just curious, do I get the SUB on this card even though it was a downgrade? Thought with the FTF, might not be worth it given it’s so small.

What value are you getting from CSP? I have redeemed some points to hyatt. I do use the 3x reward points fot online supermarkets in Australia. Apart from that is there much else?
Which supermarkets does it work for? Might it work for Coles GC assuming they finally bring an offer out … been a while since the last one. Assuming they didn’t make any $$ so they’ve stopped the offer.

As far as I know, it works online only, i use it for Woolworths as Coles wont accept the chase card details for some reason.

Thanks. Which routes do Alaskan airlines provide good value on? Is it mainly north America related routes or where else? Do they have good business reward availability?

Coles wont accept the chase card details
It happened to me too, so I called their online phone number and they will be able to see the declined transaction and proccess it on the phone. The wait time is not too bad and they opened until 11PM weekdays and do open on weekend as well but not sure till when - Probably 5 or 6PM.

I made a complaint to Coles because I confirmed with Chase there is no issue from their end but the merchant. Also, the other workaround is adding Chase card into your Paypal and pay Coles Online with PayPal. However I tried P2 Account to add Chase card but could not select the right Billing Address to work. so YMMV.

If the problem is not being able to add a US billing address, the solution is to create a brand new PayPal US account using a different email address - I've come to learn that PayPal accounts are country specific!

Interesting, paying through PayPal AU with a US Amex works regardless of the Billing Address but looks like the same might not work for Chase...

Something to consider then.

Just FYI, Paypal AU, definitely works with Chase with a US address. Never had any issues with any of the US cards.
Interesting! I had no issues adding my US Amex to the PayPal AU account, but the Chase card just refused to work. I followed PayPal's advice here and created a US account, which solved it for me. There's a minor side benefit to all of this - PayPal US seems to push out more offers than AU; so far it's offered a rebate for tracking the shipment of a purchase through PayPal, a $5 credit for spending $10, as well as a pre-approved line of credit (which I did not take up).

Will the transaction still code as online super market through paypal?

Just tried adding the chase card to Aus Paypal and it wont accept in because of the address. Also created a USA paypal and it wont accept Chase card either! Wondering am I getting declined for US Paypal because ive triggered something..

I just had a look, it looks like you can't link a card to non-AU address. I think you can by pass this via linking a card during a purchase or perhaps this was changed recently. I've recently added a C1 card via Paypal as well so definitely no issues with supplying a US billing address.
