Flew First Class on DL yesterday BUF-DTW-EWR was delayed on the first leg 4hrs due engineering so they put me on a direct flight to JFK as they could not get me out of Detroit before the last flight. Question is, do I earn SC at my original or the new direct flight in these situations?

80SC was originally meant to be credited now only 40 under the new leg which will cut me short of hitting the Gold Target before my J Class flight back US-AU which is a bummer in terms of points lost.

You will need to contact Velocity, carefully explain the IRROP situation and request "Original Routing Credit" for the additional 40 SC's.

Note that Velocity are know to "comp." status when a member is so close to gaining it in any case.

Have the 40 SC's already posted?

I’ll send off a query anyway to save some time as my online DL Itinerary reflects the modified change with attached velocity number so I am fairly certain it won’t credit the original.

Nothing posted yet DL appears to be about 48-72hrs from previous flights last few weeks.

I guess they are under no obligation to credit the original anyway as it wasn’t Velocity fault. Fingers crossed.

If your flight was changed from connecting service to a direct flight, you will earn using the direct service details.

I have from Virgin Australia in writing that they will not provide 'Original Routing Credit' like other airlines do in these cases.

This was in response to a VA flight I booked MEL-SYD-ZQN which they changed to a NZ operated MEL-ZQN without my permission (the other flights flew but were fully booked). I was trying to credit the original flight to DL, so the NZ operated flight was no good.

As it turned out, by working through Delta, I was able to force Original Routing Credit from VA (crediting to my DL account). This was only after several attempts through DL and VA, with DL eventually calling VA for me to push it through. But VA made it clear that this was due to Delta Skymiles policy honoring ORC, and Virgin did not have such a policy.

Poor policy for the customer for sure, especially because it usually involves something bad happening to begin with! I was meant to meet a friend in SYD for the SYD-ZQN leg so even though a direct flight is better for most, I was pretty unhappy with how I was treated and had to sit at the ZQN airport for 2 hours waiting for my originally booked flight to arrive.
