Status Extension!!

I expect the criteria changes based on all sorts of criteria over the years, rather than being a fixed formula. Some years ago, my Platinum status was renewed when I was approximately 300 SCs short of the Silver renewal threshold, let alone the Platinum renewal threshold .

Here's some anecdotes on my latest experience of comping WP, with my partner and I both having renewal dates of 31 Jan. I noticed this evening my partner has been comped Platinum (extended to 31 Jan 2011), 210 SC's short - after a two year average of 1375 and three year average of 1316. WP status for 4 years. I haven't been comped - I am still 365 SC's short, two year average 1197.5 .... three year average 1400.. WP status for 7 years. Still two months to go. Que sera sera.

I think we have been saying for a while if we are going to be comped status automatically it will happen ~8 weeks from reassessment date. Good luck to your partner and "Que sera sera" just about sums it up....

Maybe for WP, for SG I was comp'd this year 400SC short, however it occurred two days after my anniversary date and was obviously a much appreciated surprise.

Taking bets on whether or not I'll get comped (or an e-mail asking for travel plans)...

~12 weeks out from re-assessment, and sitting about 800SC's short of re-qual, but with an average over the lifetime of my QFF account that would make me WP for another 2 years to come.

(Happy to provide them with 2010 plans and I'll do so if I don't hear within a month of re-assessment, which should hopefully do the trick).

Cheers,
- Febs.

Well it didn't take long for que sera sera ... I don't know if its numerical on FF number of alphabetical on surname but the following morning I was there too, whatever the case for some reason my "comp" took some hours longer to come through. All as you say ~ 8 weeks out. Still hoping to not need it though - just got back to SIN from a weekend in BKK after return J on CX (which at the time we finally booked it was only $40 dearer than the cheapest seats on Jetstar, Tiger or Air Asia ......)

I'm currently sweating on whether I'll be comp'd or have to fly my remaining SC's.

The situation:

8 weeks out from end of year.
Sitting on <800 sc's.
The only booked travel before end of my year is worth 80scs, although I do have the Qantas promo of 50 extra SC's if I book and fly a QF flight before a certain date.

Being UK based, not that easy to get my QF flight in - although there are ways, and I've been wanting a trip to Singapore.

Have been starting to analyse ex-UK SCrun opportunities, although none in Europe are currently very palatable $ wise, and a trip to the US is unlikely.

Was comped last year with less than 1200 sc's, although I finished the year with >1200.

Based on previous history, I'd expect that I'll know in the next couple of days what Qantas has planned for me. Will it be:

- Comp.
- Request for travel plans for next year (and then possible comp).
- Nothing from Qantas and they expect me to fly the SCs.

I got comped Silver. Only managed 150SC in my "year" (30th Nov Ann). I swear, when l joined the QFF, l picked the wrong time. Right around my birthday and x-mas.

Already got 95SC 1 month into my new "year". See if l can make Gold this year, fingers crossed...

Mal - suggest checking your account closely. Mine was comped some time in the last 3 days. Same year-end as you (see above for situation). :)

Edit: I should add I didn't need to e-mail and didn't receive any letters/e-mails...the comp was automatic.

Good luck! Crossing my fingers for you. :)

Cheers,

Thanks. Either they're still in the process of processing by FF#/Surname or whatever they use, or my account has been flagged for a manual review.

Still no change.

Any luck?

Got my new package today, with a letter saying that although I didn't make the minimum, my "loyalty during recent years" has been recognised, and they've given me another year. :)

Any luck?

Nope. No email, account still showing the same data.

Hmm. At the crossroads now deciding what to do. Status runs ex-UK aren't as easy ex-Australia for several reasons. The current snow doesn't help much either.

That is very unusual. Somehow the system must have flagged that you were comped last year even though you eventually re-qualified before the reassessment date.

How about LHR-HKG-TPE return on QF/CX in economjy for ~AUD1580 (I looked on Expedia you may be able to get this cheaper) and 100 SCs and then 2 TPE-HKG-MNL returns on CX in business class for ~AUD850 and 400 SCs. You can leave Fri 22 January and return Tuesday 26 January.

All up ~AUD2430 earning 500 SCs @ AUD4.86/SC....

@ MAL - how much benefit are you going to have by retaining, and is it worth 2400 bucks?

JK - you have been busy looking up them flights - well done, I would never have thought of ex tpe flighs - what about EVA air - they are cheap in J - very cheap!!

Mr!

Eva Air may be cheap J but does not earn QF SCs and points. By the way it does not take very long to look up the flights when you know where the cheap deals are to be found.

Well I'll be - i was going to J from BNE/TPE in a couple of months (planned at least) on EVA - I thought they were codeshare with QF... What ever gave me that idea John?

Well there you go. I did not think Eva Air were a QF partner but they would only have selected codeshares anyway so LHR-TPE would not be included. Or is it?

Thanks John. I can do it slightly cheaper jetting through Europe, but the economies aren't the same when you factor in flights per day and the current weather etc. Flying to the U.S is another option, but they have the same weather issues as here.

It is weird that I haven't been contacted either way ...

MunitalP - would like to retain Platinum. Perhaps it's worth that value, perhaps it's not.

The funny thing is that if I do renew it (the hard way!), Qantas really doesn't get much benefit out of it anyway as none of the flights (bar the one already booked) will be on Qantas metal.
