Hi, I have done a few searches, and looked through the last 10 pages of the forum, and haven't found an answer ... I hope it hasn't been answered a dozen times already!

I need to book a flight asap to keep my status for the next year (my status expires on 31 March). My question is: can I book a sale fare? I know the Qantas FAQ doesn't say anything about it ... I'm just a bit nervous because I really want to keep my status and would rather not screw it up because I've missed something very obvious.

Thanks in advance!

You need to book a fare and travel unless QF cancels the flight. If you cancel or fail to travel then it won't work.

Sale fares are eligible.

Oh and register for the Double Status Credits promo before you book to get that as well (if travelling 31 March onwards).

The Qantas web site has all the details here, but in summary you need to book before your status expiry date (31 March) and travel by 31 December.

They are allowing you to pay for the booking with cash, Qantas TravelPass, Qantas Flight Credit, Qantas Gift cards or with Qantas Points (via a Classic Flight Reward or Points Plus Pay). So although it does not specifically say so, I cannot see why it would matter if it is a sale fare. They are letting people take classic rewards and still meet the conditions, so I honestly cannot imagine that you would be denied on a paid fare, even if it is a sale fare.

However, to be really sure, why not call them or use the chat functions.

And as @mviy said, register for the Double Status Credits and get that benefit as well.

What status are you now and how many status credits do you have towards retaining?

That's not very relevant. All you need to do is book and take a single flight to retain via the extension.

Whereas to retain the normal way you need 4 flight segments on QF and to get all the Status Credits needed to retain normally (the bonus credits received due to COVID would count towards those) which requires a lot more flying.

There's no benefit to retaining it the normal way. You don't get the extension later instead. If you retain the normal way you still at this stage need to qualify normally next membership year which for @birder begins on 1 April.

Thank you! Is there an easy link for the DSC promo somewhere?

You all are amazing.

Just go to qantas.com. It's in the banner at the top of the homepage.

There's also a thread on the promo on AFF with a link to the registration page.

I usually prefer to register for a DSC promo on an earlier day (i.e. up to about 24 hours earlier) GMT time than when I make the booking to actually fly.

You don't have to do it this way, but I do this to try to make sure their IT system knows I registered before I booked.

QF's IT systems use GMT time even though the website etc. will display Australian time.

Thank you! Fantastic. I did a print screen as evidence that I registered ... I don't always trust their systems!

I always do that too, @birder, and have been glad of it on more than one occasion. I registered about an hour back and they say they will send a confirming email, which has not arrived as yet. It usually works just fine, but as I care more than they do, a screen shot is not much effort as insurance.

Did you also receive an email confirmation?
I did just get the email confirmation!

Yes, I just got the email confirmation - but sometimes it never comes. It is always worth it to just do the screen shot and email it to myself.
