Status Credits - date reset?

I am due to do a moderate amount of flying in the next 2 months (RTW trip), and I will collect quite a few QF Status Credits, but not enough to get me to qualify for the next status tier. My annual reset date is for the end on October, meaning that unless I have another brief frenzy of flying when I get back (start of October), I forfeit all my SCs.

Does anyone know if I can reset my SC cycle, so that it starts before I begin my RTW trip, and as a result any SCs earned wont expire for another year, giving me ample time to do some more flights and make the next tier? My current SC balance is negligible.

Well one way _could_ be to not let the airline know you are a FF member on your RTW trip, keep all proof and boarding passes and after anniversary date present it all to Qantas and see if they will add the points and SC's to you retrospectively but in the new SC period.

Remember to do this within 3 months of your trip though.

Also, can I assume that you are a bronze? If you are higher then you might be able to convince QFF to maintain your current status of Silver or higher by telling them you will be doing a lot of flying next SC period. They can 'maintain' your current status to the following year.

Officially change your name and start a new FF account. That will work. Or maybe just set up a new account under your name at a different address. :wink:

Or perhaps join another OW FF program, and have flights credited there instead. There's something called the AA challenge discussed frequently, but I've never had to worry about looking into it, but others I am sure can help you with the details.

Not all too keen on starting a new FF account - $83 and the hassles of re-link my credit cards etc.

the "wait until return" idea might work, but still a hassle to recredit everything, and even worse is that I wanted to use some of the points I will get for a class upgrade towards the end...

Does anyone know if they can simply "reset" the date early? I think I joined in December, so I have no idea why they are making the rest date October...

brisbull, the options advised previously are, in my opinion, the only options.

Once you have commenced a FF account, the start (anniversary) date remains. The only way it changes is if you get Partner Gold from a Platinum member - then your date will change to match the Plat members' .

Rather than starting another QFF account, dajop mentioned the AA Platinum Challenge. If you are a Bronze QFF member and never think you'll get anywhere (as you're indicating), this is a brilliant method to get an express ride to AA Platinum (OW Sapphire), which is equivalent to QF Gold.

If you are going to do the trip before the end of this year, then you'll have Plat status until 28 Feb 07 (i.e. Business Class check-in access, Lounge access, additional luggage limits, etc) and AA redemption are much cheaper than QF's.

I've personally assisted ~10 people through AA Plat Challenge (including my wife, parents, best friend, a couple from this Forum and Flyertalk) and all can't believe how easy it was. Neither could I when I was first introduced to it in 2003.

What is your routing??
Who are you flying with??
What is the fare basis??

I have looked at the AA challenge (lack of , and with my current flights I wont make it to platinum, although I would make it to gold (not much point getting to gold). The biggest problem was that I had already organised most flights before I found out about it, and so am wasting a lot of status miles by flying with Cathay/BA and assigning to AA. Had i know about AA challenge before I organised trip, I could have easily milked the trip for the 10k needed to get platinum

The other drawback was that if I go with AA, I will end up with around 8,000 miles in an account that I think will be difficult to redeem from in Aust.

With QF, I should end up with around 25k miles, and about 160 SCs, which will come in handy with my existing 30k.

This may or may not work. I have had some credits done like this, but they have appeared on my account as a lifetime credit adjustment. Best as I could tell they weren't applied to any year in particular.

There have been a number of reports on FT that excluding FF# from booking and applying for retrospective credit does NOT work in terms of getting SCs into the next member year.

Of course YMMV
