Nice upgrade!

Did they finally renovate the rooms? Stayed there few years ago and the property looked quite run down.

Booked: Aloft room, non-smoking King Bed
Received: Urban room, non-smoking: King Bed, Corner Room

Also booked The Westin in Sydney. Asked about upgrades got laughed by person checking me in saying that for Gold you get free "water", the real upgrades are from Platinum. Disappointing.

Even Platinums rarely get suites at Westin SYD. If you want real upgrades better stay at Sheraton.

But plats can also miss suites at the SOTP.
Always got a suite at 4 points which sadly has gone.

Yeah wasn't expecting a suite or anything as still gold. Was just hoping for a higher room or something.

Definitely not staying at Westin anymore, not because of the service, but of the damn huge clock!! Can't sleep in.

HI All - I have a stay coming up at The Westin Kuala Lumpur, as part of a small group (I am coordinating it). We're too small to qualify for group rates or conditions, and so I can't get credit through SPG PRO (min 10 rooms), however I can still claim Starpoints for up to 3 rooms, including my own, so long as I pay, which is fine.

The reason for posting here... I'm wondering if others have experience with how consistent Starwood properties are with giving status benefits to the other rooms that I have the SPG membership attached. I am MR/SPG Platinum, and it would be great if they get some benefits from that, like lounge access, or upgrades, so long as they don't end up getting the better room / suite than I do, of course! :D

Cheers,
Matt.

I wouldn't hold your breath for upgrades. Best I've heard us lounge passes and/or breakfast.

I had it happen 1 out of 2 with Marriott in the last trip. But only 2 rooms. There has been a discussion on FT recently and it does happen occasionally with SPG but depends on hotel.
I have at times been able to take a third person into SPG lounges without charge.
Asia is often better with loyalty programs so it may happen but don't count on it.

Thank you both - I’ll report back here next month with how we fare, including my own upgrade

Cheers,
Matt

Hi I’m not sure if I’m posting in the right place. Was tempted to ask this in the Marriott threads as SPG will soon be defunct.

My wife and I are going to check into Westin Times Square tomorrow. I’m SPG gold via Amex. Never had an upgrade at SPG hotels before. I at least, I want a Times Square view from our room (as opposed to ‘city view’) was told that was at hotel’s discretion when booking. Would it be best to check in earlier in the day to have the best chance of allocation of a room with a suitable view or wait until later in the day?

Members’ experiences appreciated :)

Regis Princeville Kauai Hawaii
Booked: Points plus Pay. Mountain/garden view room.
Received: Premium Ocean View room.
Really enjoyed my free Mai Tais on the resort balcony during the champagne sabering.

It was a two night stay and the second stay for us at this hotel. Really enjoyed our stay. The double room upgrade was greatly appreciated. Our room was next door to the Presidential and Royal suites so our view was amazing.
