Hello all,

I'm a long time lurker on the forum, but a new registered member.

I've taken some of the helpful advice from the forums and bought myself some of the US Airways miles, while the fantastic promo is running.

My query relates to the baggage aspect of the flights I've booked. One of the flights is dreadful - DUB-IST-BOM-SIN-BNE (nightmare I know, but its around xmas time, so had to take what I could get)!!

I've got an hour in IST to transfer to my flight to BOM. Then I have 3 hours to wait before transferring to my flight to SIN. At SIN, I have to wait 8 hours before transferring from SIN to BNE.

I am assuming that as I'm not intending on clearing immigration in any of these countries, I won't have to pick up my bags and can have them sent all the way through to BNE. Is this correct? I guess if I have to pick them up, I'd prefer to do it in SIN as I've got some time to kill here for sure!;)

It sounds like the flights are all on the same ticket.

I believe you should not have any issues getting the luggage checked through to your final destination as long as the duration of the flights is not more than 48 hours (I believe some, if not all, airlines have this restriction due to check-in opening times) and your connection in SIN is SQ->SQ and if not an SQ->SQ connection that it is not an overnight connection in SIN.

Thanks John!

Yes, they are all on the same ticket and no, I don't think it goes over 48hours (taking into consideration time zones).

Thanks again for you response! :)

Also note that in SIN you can still clear immigration even if you are in transit and head off into town for sightseeing or dinner depending on the time of day you are there.

And welcome to AFF!

Thanks for the welcome! Being an Irish Expat in Aus, I look forward to 'learning' lots of ways to get home cheaply!! ; )

Thats a good idea - heading into SIN. I'm there from around 3pm until midnight . . . might be fun! :)

louiseos, what was your routing like using the US award redemption? and are you going First all the way

My notice to travel was very last minute (I've got a sick family member to get home to see), so I didn't have the luxury of time or choice. :(

Going there isn't too bad - I'm going MEL-BKK-OSL-DUB. The connections are pretty good and have no more than 3 hours to wait between connections. Its flying with Thai and its business class. I don't think there's a first class on this route (or if there is it wasn't an option for me given the short notice).

Coming back was a huge pain trying to get flights. I need to travel between xmas and new year, so availability in business class was pretty cough. My return routing is DUB-IST-BOM-SIN-BNE. Bit messy, but there wasn't an alternative that allowed me to travel business the entire way.

I've avoided the UK on purpose as it increases the taxes & charges. For the above flights, my taxes came to US$145.79 (+processing fee +expedite fee).

FYI - It appears to be very hard to get flights with Singapore Airlines, so if you want to fly first with them, make sure you have time to plan it as I've heard that availability in first with them is almost impossible to get.

See if you can interline all the way that will deal with with the clearing immigration on the whole.

What carriers are you on?

MEL - BKK - OSL are with Thai
OSL - DUB is with SAS

DUB - IST - BOM are with TK
BOM - SIN - BNE are with SG

I am hopeful that the baggage will be sent all the way through, given its all on the one ticket and its straight there and straight back!:)

Looks ok all star alliance.

How much was your ticket?

Do you have seating arranged?

In future look at the middle east airlines to bypass LHR into EUR, always some good deals.

I recently spent 6 hours at SIN at that was way too long to stay at Changi.

For me, next time I am there in the afternoon I'll take a S$25 taxi to China Town and Quays, walk around, have dinner and then head back to airport S$25 for a shower before boarding.

SIN immigration in & out is quick and easy.

For your consideration.

Yep, all Star alliance. Hence the question about if they would interline the baggage.

Ticket was paid for with US Airways miles (they have an awesome promotion at the moment, ending 30 November).

Seating not arranged yet, waiting for my reservation code to organise that. I figure in business class, it won't be too bad wherever I sit - not like I'm going to have people climbing over me to get out etc (hopefully! ;))

The bags should be fine.

How did you accumulate so many US Airways mikes???

I would do seating as some will be better than others.

If you give us flight # and dates we can advise
