Totally agree Fred we need a leg up here in Perth, I booked Sing- LHR in the last sale a few weeks ago for $2100 return, this will be our 3rd time with them in J and can't fault them.

i thought you guys had it easy in Perth? a couple hundred bucks to fly to SIN (almost manageable in economy??) followed by cheap business class to Europe. sounds like a dream.

A caution when dealing with UL:

Get your booking name right! Because no other airline website that I've booked on-line with asks for: Title then Last Name then First Name (in that order)! Not Air India, not Malaysia Airlines, not Qantas, not British Airways, not Cathay Pacific (and I could go on and on).

And oops, I reversed my first and last names. But I noticed it a few minutes after booking.

But there's no way UL will change the booking. And they have said I could be denied check-in (due to name mismatch). They have said they now cannot guarantee my flights. And they will not cancel and let me re-book (for the same fare) without a substantial fee.

In fact they are horrible to deal with. All just to try and correct a typing error. Qantas does it better: Same Day No Mistake | Qantas

Was this an ex Asia business class? They state cancellation fees ex Europe as 100 euros or 100 pounds (but interestingly they don't list the fees ex Asia). How much are they quoting ex Asia?

It's not that bad - SGD 115.00.

But just for a typing error, reported to them minutes after?

Another reason for me requesting the change was that my Qantas FF number was rejected (because my first and last names are swapped).

My main point here is how horrible they are to deal with over a simple error. Darn right nasty, I'd say!

It's a good idea to get one's name sequence right!

thanks for the warning!

Actually SGD`115 isn't too bad. I recall someone else bought a fare for ~$2000 - would almost be worth cancelling for just a penalty of $115 and rebooking.

While no excuse, and while QF is good with it's 'no fault' policy... not allowing changes is fairly common and been widely reported with other airlines :(

Have you tried calling their web support, or customer service by email? that sometimes helps.

I coughed up my Turkish e-visa last night by neglecting to type my middle name. Lost that USD$60 fee in a heartbeat, had to resubmit a new application with new fee.

$115 fee doesn't look that bad IMO.

I kind of think it's odd that the FORMATION OF CONTRACT happened.

Because the solo passenger Mr Austman David had his ticket paid for by Mr David Austman.

But name swaps there don't seem to matter perhaps?

4. FORMATION OF CONTRACT

4.1 A reservation is made and accepted in our system when the passenger pays the applicable fare for his/her reservation together with applicable taxes, fees, charges and surcharges. No contract will come into effect and no commitment will arise either on your part or on the part of SriLankan Airlines until and unless we have confirmed acceptance of your reservation upon receipt of payment.

4.2 Payment shall be made for reservations made through this service at the time of the request by VISA, MASTERCARD or AMERICAN EXPRESS cards.

4.3 The Card holder must be an adult member of the traveling party and the physical card which was used to pay for the tickets must be carried at the time of travel.

According to this website (Air Sri Lanka Forum - Fleet Information) UL has already received 2 of the 7 A333 on order with the new J seats (http://www.srilankan.com/images/Fleet/fleet-A330-300-2.jpg). Sadly 4R-ALL and 4R-ALM are rarely used on the European routes at the moment, hopefully this will change when they have received more aircrafts. If deliveries are on schedule 6 of the 7 aircrafts should be in service by October 2015.

That's what I feared :(

other flights are operated by full-flat forward facing seats... with the exception (I believe) of one remaining aircraft which has angled recliners. I'm not sure of the route that most commonly uses the angled-seat aircraft (while it's not great, it's not terrible either... the leg-rest is almost horizontal, and seat back reclines about 60 or so degrees)

Royal Brunei does it too. Nearly made the same mistake when booking tix Mel-bkk yesterday. Luckily noticed the error before hitting submit when reviewing form.
