SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

If it makes anyone feel "better" I'm flying Scoot SIN - MEL in Y in late January :)

Being the 4th AU-EU trip of the year, had to use up some points and save some cash, but could only get AMS-SIN in J and nothing came up SIN-MEL.

One way J fares are normally silly pricing, so looking at Y. Normal one way Y fares on SQ are around $850 which is fine, but all of January is $1,866, which is laughable

Y+ is $2,550 and J is $3,200

QF and JQ were also $1200-$1,500

Scoot is around $700, so Scoot it is.......... :(
It's Australian Open then, hence the prices.

Yep given SQ’s current loadings on all AU-SIN routes then creativity in positioning flts is something many of us are facing.

SQ’s exorbitant pricing ex AU is really get up many pax noses - but it is what it is so seeking alternative carriers is becoming much more prevalent

Perhaps, I'd say the middle east "war" is a big one as well. So many people not going vie the UAE anymore so it's SQ picking up the slack.

Never had an issue getting 4 J awards before at this time, this year, not even 1 released for saver :(

EU-SIN-EU no issues just AU :(

A big factor is actually end of school holidays, which sees a huge influx of foreign students coming to or returning to Australia for the start of the school year. Inbound in January, is always expensive. February can be too for the same reason.

Also probably getting some early lunar new year traffic. Next year it’s on 6 Feb.

So many factors at play.

Frequency and hard product are unrelated.

If you want a 2 m long, full-width bed, increased frequency cant make up for that.
I don't agree; frequency and hard product are related to a certain extend.

On SQ ex MEL at the moment, you have a choice of hard product between the 350-MH at either end of the day, a 777-300ER, a 380 or a 350 Long Haul. Take your pick.

The soft product will be the same SQ standard whatever choice you make.

This year is different - Normally can easily get back between 15-20th of Jan, 20-30th of Jan is hard/more $$

This year, all of Jan just $$$$$$$ or no award seats (Savers)

We must be at cross-purposes here?

If I want that 2m long, full-width flat bed, none of the SQ options (except perhaps the regional) offer that.

It’s irrelevant that SQ has 5 x daily flights… if they don’t offer a bed of that description, what benefit is the increased frequency?

Their loads would suggest that not everyone needs a 2m long full width flat bed on each and every flight and some, in fact many, people are ok to compromise on that to travel at the time they want.

In fact it is arguable that for 6 of the 10 flights (4 northbound and 2 southbound) a 2 m long beds is overkill as many people remain awake for the majority of those 6 flights. YMMv but there are many factors that different people have for choosing flights.

Product is more than just the seat.

Agree.

But this side discussion was in relation to comments made that people are complaining about the hard product but failing to acknowledge the frequency of service, or the additional capacity put on to Europe in response to the Iran war.

If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. Dun matter how many flights there are!
