SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Re the welcome European expansion mentioned above, I'm particularly interested in booking to/from MUC on the new day flight about this time next year but this service does not appear to have been loaded into the SQ platform as yet. Could I ask if anyone sees these services being loaded - including the new MAD extension from BCN and the expansion of flights to LGW, could they please let us know. Thanks in advance.

Heads up FYI, the A350 MH is coming to Sydney (SYD, not WSI) from November this year.

On the morning SQ241, and its evening SQ242 return flight, replacing the current A350 Long Haul.

This will sadly mean no more premium economy on these flights and a not-as-nice business class seat.

For Melbourne the A350MH is unfortunately also rostered in as twice daily from the same period onwards, up from the current daily flight.

In better news for Melbourne, looks like the A380 is planned to stay there for now, as was originally reported the it would only be there until October:

SQ241/242 A350 MH starts from 1 July. Very unfortunate that’s the case.

"Tickets for the new Madrid service will go on sale from June 2026 via SIA’s distribution channels, while tickets for the additional services to Manchester, Milan, Munich, and London Gatwick will be released progressively."

From the press release. Might have to just keep an eye out.

I just rechecked for 241 and 242, yup a very last min change but indeed July the MH is back in Sydney… BUT in September and October, the LH is rostered before reverting to MH from November onwards, and this includes the busy Christmas and New Years period - sorry for anyone who booked PY during that time on that flight.

The last time the A350MH was in Sydney was actually just after the pandemic end - it was doing SQ221 and its return flight SQ232 as almost no one was travelling during the pandemic, before it was replaced by the A380. Now that was quite the upgrade I’d say, didn’t think we would see the MH return to Sydney so soon

I found one of the new Munich flights, it’s SQ340 but keep in mind it’s only a few times a week and not a daily flight like SQ328 redeye

The medium haul is disgusting, and having it on 2 flights a day to MEL is pathetic

Sadly with the refits of the A350 LH the MH will likely stay around for even longer and probably to MEL

MEL was the dumping ground for the older 777-300's (Not the ERs) until they were retired as well :(

Once the refurbished A350's start early next year the difference between the MH and LH will be even bigger

Don’t like it because?

In terms of seating… best product for a full-flat, forward-facing seat with no tiny footwells?

Agree 777 not pleasant at all… rock hard seats with tiny foot nook and tension seatbelt while sleeping :(

Seat width on the A350 medium haul is about 6-10 inches narrower, the annoying push up down arm-rests and just a small seat feel, just feels more like a premium economy seat.

My next flight is LH but my Xmas flight is on the MH seat out of MEL :(

Oh! I don’t touch the sides on the regional seats, so I’m ok :)

I have never seen the point in PremY - paying four times the price to still be in economy.

Ex Australia yes totally agree as fares are crazy. But other routes they can be more reasonable at times.

Flew to NYC in Feb in PE for $1500 return from SIN. Totally worth it - although we do have free access to exit rows, but even then at $200 on for that still a good deal. FWIW both SQ and QF were charging more than this to do a return to MEL from SIN in Y over the same dates.

I don't think those 777's were being referenced. MEL seemed to hang onto different 777 variants longer than most, and both the angled flat equipped planes and the cradle seat 2-3-2 equipped aircraft stayed on MEL for a long time.

I routinely remember catching SQ237 SIN-MEL around 2008 and often you still had cradle seats on that aircraft, 2-3-2, and whilst there was a deep recline, it was a recline and you often had another seat in your face.

How things have changed, and perhaps a reason I tend to roll my eyes at the incremental changes to seat designs that millenial vloggers heavily promote as "game changers". Oh look a door - what a game changer. The real game change came when cradle seats suddenly became fully flat.

(no I'm not one of the four Yorkshiremen, although it feels like at times ;))
