SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Back from the EU after flying Asiana in Y and Air France in their new J on the A350, and then back home on SQ A350's. in J

Both the +1 and I said stepping on SQ was liking "coming home". As nice as the new Air France seats were, and a nice soft mattress topper, the service was very "French"

We did notice the pours of wine onboard were always very small initially, after a few glasses they were getting filled up more and more.

T3 SKL a zoo early in the morning, but lovely after 8:30am

Still no news of the refurbished A350's :(

Starlink now confirmed BUT not on the A350 medium hauls and not starting until 2027... :(

7 weeks until our next SQ flights, two waitlists for F, but booked in J, which given the loads I think we'll be stuck in J

For MEL-FRA or MEL-MUC flying in J what are recommended flights in terms of day/night flying and stopover time in Sin?

To meet the A380 connection from Mel means you only have 50 mins in Sin? And seems to be then late arrival into FRA with daytime sleeping?

I prefer to fly overnight if possible.

Onward journey to Athens next day so would probably need 1 night near airport.

For me, it depends on how much time I have. If plenty of time, I would go with day flight to Singapore, stay night, day time to Europe. Then you can enjoy food, drinks, service, meeting other AFFers and get a decent night sleep in a real bed. If time is short, then just book whatever departure/arrive time works for you. I don’t worry about aircraft type for J.

Totally agree. If you spend the night in a real bed in SIN, you get to enjoy a nice day time flight to Europe and sleep again in a real bed a few hours after you land. And the lounge is not that busy before the daytime FRA flight, more pleasant than during the evening peak. But if time constrained then it’s SQ228->SQ26 (FRA) or SQ328(MUC).

Or sticking with the LH family ZRH would also be an option (connecting from either SQ228/3:30pm or SQ208 /6:25pm flights ) and then travel to ATH from there.. I prefer ZRH to either MUC or FRA but YMMV.

We did SQ212 SYD-SIN morning flight, and SQ328 SIN-MUC overnight flight. We ended up having half a day in Singapore for resting and sightseeing. Then visited the SilverKris lounge, have a shower and eat before flying overnight to Munich. I prefer overnight flight to Europe given it is almost 13 hours, I can spend a lot of the time sleeping. Then I can spend whole day at MUC for sightseeing.

2 questions as a SQ newbie if I may please

1. Flights I have been looking at SIN-HKT-SIN have gone up, though if I book 2 one ways, it is a few hundred $ cheaper - any downside to this?
2. Another scenario, is there an issue with doing separate tickets, J one way and Y the other?
Edit : cash fares

Are you talking of cash or reward flights?
