SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Thought I’d chime in having joined the forum not too long after this discussion.

Yes most SQ J appetiser are seafood dishes. And yes I believe it’s meant to convey an idea of being premium. But that being said, I also want to comment, there is one non-seafood appetiser they serve in J ex-SIN I would name and shame, and it’s this I had on my flight to Europe last year. Grilled Chicken Salad with Roasted Apples. This was easily the most underwhelming appetiser I’ve seen them serve in J. I would easily rather have any of the more common smoked salmon or prawn salad appetisers they otherwise have. I also have seen some Scallop appetisers on the menu Ex-SIN recently which is lovely, that’s a very premium ingredient.

All very well unless your tastebuds (or worse your allergies) and seafood are incompatible. Seafood maybe premium, but it is something that you like or hate. (I 'm on the hate side, with some exceptions when complemented by overpowering other flavours, like in a laksa ). So for most SQ entrees they are more or less unadulterated, cold seafood which I really don't like. Despite its flaws, I'd take that chicken appetiser over the smoked salmon, prawns and especially scallops. Nothing wrong with them per se, I just wish they had a choice of a non-seafood (meat or veg) option.

On my flight back from LGW this week the appetiser was as below, sort of mashed up crab meat. I hardly ate any of it, as I really didn't enjoy it.
Crab Salad with Black Garlic and Chive Mayonnaise
Steamed crab with chive mayonnaise, black garlic and lemon zest. Topped with pickled fennel, green apple, and garnished with micro cress.

Your loss, that appetiser sounds amazing
Yet it to me it tasted disgusting, it looked and tasted like a fishier version of tinned tuna! In any event I of course enjoyed the satays, and didn't really need any more food at 11am ... especially after breakfast in the lounge.

I guess I'll just have to suck it up and accept the change. They even issue a new ticket.
I'm always amused by their regret in informing me of such an insignificant change.
