SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Sorry to hear of the medical issues. I’ve recently cancelled SQ rewards flights for my wife and there is an option online to cancel/modify with a Dr letter and no fees are charged. The points were returned in just over 24hrs. Don’t cancel form Manage Bookings use the Assistance Request form - https://www.singaporeair.com/get-help/changesandrefunds

I've also used the Assistance Request Form and SQ extended the validity of my points by 12 months so they wouldn't expire. I think it's better to use the form rather than ring so that you get through to someone with the authority to give you the answer you desire.

Data point on Confirmed Booking downgrades R/F to J - I have experienced a dozen or so over the journey - sometimes you can fight tooth and nail for alternate flts and you may experience success or you may not - at the end of the day what you might achieve, accept or be forced upon you can and will vary.

But if you cannot be satisfactorily accommodated on an alternative flt and if you currently have, or intend to have J flts on same route don’t be backward in strongly seeking a 1 sector upgrade J to F to be used some time in future.

If request is successful you will be emailed an official ‘1 Sector Upgrade Certificate’ with 12mth validity. Can only be used on exact sector that was downgraded and requires notification of usage in advance and physical ‘Certificate’ must be presented at time of check-in.

May not be ideal in all cases but for me in past has eased the pain a number of times. Let me reinforce , to achieve this end result you may require to be persistent, a little assertive, patient and pleasant but end result is worthwhile.

Hope this might help some 👍

Wondering if anyone can assist with a tricky timing-based question.

After a flight from LHR to SIN in a few days, we are having an overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza Changi before flying on to MEL on SQ207 the following morning.

207 departs at 0740, and I understand that the Crowne Plaza only starts serving breakfast at 0600.

There's no way in the world I'd have time to have a nice hotel brekkie before boarding that flight, is there? I'm assuming gates close 0710.... Bags will already be checked through so its just border controls and security to clear.

Should add that I'm travelling with a five year old kid as well, so doing a sprint through the terminal isn't really an option!

Has anyone done this before and has a suggestion?

IIRC gate closes 15 minutes before departure.

Can you do breakfast in 30 mins?

@MathNerd we are going PER-SIN-NRT-LAX. We overnight at Crowne Plaza in Singapore on 17th Sept.
Will we see you in TPR on 18th?
Oh, miss you by just 4 days!
We're going MEL-SIN-JFK departing 21st night. No TPR anyways because neither of our flights is in F/R (nor do they have these cabins)!
Just happy to tick another off the bucket list - SQ24 is a dream come true!

Safe travels mate!

We have taken this flight quite a few times and decided against trying for breakfast, and we also value sleep. If you are down at 6 and out at 6:30 you would be fine though.. :)

Sadly the breakfast on SQ207 flight is not even breakfast.

I have given feedback every time., that this flight and also SQ248 which is the 5:55am flight from MEL-SIN should have breakfast!!!!

It's refreshment and then a full-on lunch later in the flight, including the famous satay (in J). That would be my preference (instead of breakfast and a later refreshment) - I can have breakfast in the hotel or lounge.

If it's just me, absolutely.

Just not sure Miss 5 year old will (a) slow us down, (b) crack the coughs, or (c) both!

Gates closing 15 mins before departure makes it sound more doable though...
Just be aware they work on the watch second hand. Many years ago I was transiting in SIN with 16yo MsP who, just prior arrival put on a turn ("I don't feel well"). She has a bit of the dramatics about her and CAs suggested if she wasn't well she might not be allowed to take the connecting flight. So we dawdled through the terminals and I got her to freshen up. We arrived right on 15 minutes, the gate people just putting away their paperwork, etc. "Gate closed!" But you've only just closed it. "Sorry, closed". So we missed the connecting flight and probably delayed it's departure whilst they unloaded our bags, instead of allowing us to to board. I know some of you might say that I am one of those people that boards late. No, I'm not, this was a one off with special circumstances.

I might as well tell the rest of the story ... aware that SIN-SYD this time usually has 2 flights an hour or two apart I was not concerned. The SG service desk was close by, literally 20m away. MsP is beginning to put on a turn despite my reply not to worry, we'll get the next flight, "Dad, you made us miss our flight!, Bla, bla, bla. etc" I am discussing booking on the following flight and the service attendant says to me, "Is she your youngest? I am the youngest in my family, but I never carry on like that" 🤣

No problem if you can be finished breakfast by 6:30am, express checkout, then not more than 20 minutes to any gate in T3 (unless you suffer option (c)!).

I've come close to missing SQ248, we were in the NZ lounge happing having a quick breaky, start to wander down to the gate, which was right at the end of MEL.

Was 30 mins to departure time, and we were about 1/2 way for the 10 min walk, and my Daughter and I got the personalised announcement that the flight was about to depart. Saw 3 staff franticly running towards us as we moved fast towards the gate. They asked for our names and then called back to the gate to say we were on the way.

Last ones to board and door closed about 30 seconds later.

Flight departed 10 mins early......

Sleep > Satay

They should do a proper breakfast service, even if just continental and then lunch.

People have been up since 4/5am

I'm velocity gold, travelling with P2 and 2 kids (9 &11) in economy on SQ Syd-SIN-BKK. Can i bring all of us into the Silver Kris (SYD) & Kris Flyer gold lounge (SIN)?
