SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Thanks Peasant - Yes the A350 crews seems to be "younger" and not sure of what to do. Two separate trips, had the "do not disturb" light on and both crew members were worried about me missing my book the cook meal. After waking me 3 times trying to serve me I reminded them of the do not disturb light
Frustrating - and just not up to the standard expected of SQ. It shows a lack of lateral thinking and communication between the crew.

You'll also notice that on the B777 and A380, there will be a Chief Steward/ess (red) devoted to leading cabin service in F/R and another leading the J cabin. They are directly responsible for service within their cabin, so it's a key leadership role. The in-flight manager therefore takes on more of a managerial role overseeing the whole aircraft from tip to toe.

On the A350, there isn't a Chief Steward/ess leading the cabin: the in-flight manager is in charge of the cabin, supported by a more junior Leading Steward/ess. This means the in-flight manager actually has to work within the cabin, rather than taking that supervisory managerial role. To me, that makes a very significant difference to how service is led and executed.

Given all the downgrades on the food and wine for F, is it still worth spending more points to book F, when you can save points and book J instead? I already booked a trip to SYD-MUC and Mxp-SYD with my family of 4 on J. I was looking to book F/Suites in my next trip.....

Honestly I didn’t notice much downgrade in F&B.
Maybe some little things here and there but overall SQ F is a far superior experience to J.

Sure there are airlines which serve better food like JAL or better wines like EK but considering hard and soft products SQ F is currently better than most. Don’t get me wrong their J product is fine but let’s face it, most airlines are fine in J.

A bit off topic but how good were the “vintage” SQ PJs…
Found a pair the other day I left at my folks place and the quality is so much better than the current Lalique PJs.
The pants even have a small pocket inside the right pocket (similar to jeans) which is amazing attention to details for something many pax wear just once and leave onboard.

Morning All,

Hope this is the right forum.....
Just been canx on waitlist for SQ, BNE to SIN, 28/4, 23:50 departure in "J" (2 weeks out)
Only need one way but is $4500.
Any ideas of how to get a cheaper flight with SQ?

Cheers,

Yes but they were so heavy and way to hot in cabin with them on unless you guy CSS to attack them with her scissors to cut them down to a ‘tolerable’ level

just wondering how you join a waiting list for an award flight? Is it just as simple as clicking on the words "waiting list" and it's done? I did this for a bunch of flights but don't know how to check and see what flights I'm on the "waiting list" for. I'm just using the singaporeair.com website, not the app.

When you click on a flight it is either immediately available or wait list. Click on waitlisted flight to go on waitlist.

Once you have done that, you can see you flights on the webpage or app.

You should login into the website/app then the flights should appear. If not just add it in using the booking reference the airline sent you in the email

Is it worth ringing to get a chaser just before 3 week period us up? Loads are very high. Any tips on what to say where to ring?

Apparently chasers are being ignored by yield management even for high tier status members. I suspect they began getting way too many requests and/or loads are very high so no point.

I came across the Instagram account of a senior cabin crew for SG the other day and seemed to indicate that being scheduled on a sector to/from AU was a "short straw" and to be avoided if possible.

I think something like wait lists are under the control of yield management. Nothing to do with the call centres and nothing they can do about it
This is correct and the issue is that contact centres sit under operations and yield management sits within commercial.

The contact centre agents will send the chaser (which is an email), but chances are yield management will not release a seat if they are confident they can fill it with a paying passenger. There's not really a recourse for an appeal.

If the load is already very strong 3 weeks out, its unlikely they'll release a seat, even for Solitaires.

I've heard the same. I gather they're quite demanding flights in that they are service intensive (eg two meal services on a 6.5hr flight), the layovers are quite short and the jet-lag can be quite bad (as we all know after doing those short overnights ex SIN).

The biggest factor may be that the overnight allowances for crew are much less generous than on trips to the US or Europe, so there's a substantial financial penalty despite the high workload.

All the pax expecting multiple pours🤣

I wonder though if SQ considers AUS as a regional destination from a CC perspective. AUs must the the most expensive slip for CC of all their regional destinations.

jet-lag can be quite bad
Agree. Don't know why it is

Economy , premium economy, KrisFlyer, or fly with the little sister TR

Alternatively QF via SYD for $3400
Or JQ in mixed fare via MEL/DPS for less than $1000 but note only one sector is in J
Thanks for this.
What gets me with SQ is there is 7x "J" seats left with 13 days to go. Not to mention the 4 x Blocked bassinet seats. I've experienced this before where they flew with empty J Seats but had seats on Waitlist (prior to the 2 week cutoff they have now). Makes no sense to not release those seats to rewards if they will be empty.
