SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Mar 24 I flew 228 MEL-SIN in F - now whilst the service level of staff is still perfect the F & B onboard is seriously a step down from pre Covid. As mentioned earlier The Bogan as a F level red is just totally unacceptable - for the destinations I frequent SQ serving Krug in R / F IMHO still places them way above other F competitors ex AU - but not for food.

As for MEL F Lounge the F & B offerings there now are totally sub standard - I don't give a shiiiit about runway views etc - but Koonunga Hill reds? Give me a break. The menu on offer in SKL F on Mar 24 was a joke - all a-la-carte menu offerings also available in bulk in SKL J - seriously? Feed back will be constructed re all these matters but I thought I had an onboard pre Covid F Menu but cannot locate 1 - can someone help me out with a pre Covid MEL-SIN menu please?

Hi all, just wanted to confirm a Krisflyer redemption query with our resident guru's.

I originally made a redemption booking in September 2022 for travel in September 2023. I now want to change the travel date to January 2024. When I rang Krisflyer, the agent said this was not possible as the Jan 2024 travel date is beyond the 1 year ticket validity (Booked in September 2022, so September 2023 is the latest travel date. Is this correct?

I unfortunately can't cancel the ticket and have the miles redeposited as the miles have also since expired.

Thanks all
As @drron says, if you can’t use the ticket within its validity, your best bet is probably to cancel and argue with them to get the points back on the basis that their validity would have been extended if they had remained in your account rather than being used for the booking. There are examples above in this thread of people who have successfully done this, but be prepared for a battle…

It could be a difficult argument. The T&Cs attached to the latest extension contain this clause:
  1. I’ve cancelled my redemption booking. Why have I not been refunded the full amount of KrisFlyer miles redeemed when making the booking?

Miles that have already been utilised for redemption will not be eligible for extension. If you have made a redemption booking and subsequently cancelled it voluntarily, any refunded miles will follow the date of expiry at the time of booking.
I think this clause was added at the time of the last extension as I don't remember seeing it previously.

You don't like the second growth Bordeaux that SQ usually have?
SQ are up there with high level reds. The only other airlines I've seen with reds at that level are EK and QR. EK sometimes have first growth Bordeaux, but I have not had them onboard myself.
Many other F airlines do not come close in the red department. Including CX, JL, NH, AF, BA, AA, LH, TG. QF occasionally have a "semi-prestige" red and it's been ages since I was in the EY apartment.

@Cruiser Elite I've complained three times now about the wine in the MEL F lounge in the last 6 months and each time I'm back it's the same so I'm not sure there's anything more I can do. I can only say the same thing so many times. Moet seems to have replaced the Mumm though, but I consider that a sideways move.

I rate the French reds they currently have in F very highly - Rauzan-Segla is almost like a mini Chateau Margaux. I'm also a big fan of the Albert Bichot Grand Cru. I agree The Bogan has no place on the wine list.

Their J wines on the other hand...no thank you.

Has anyone had recent experiences of adding waitlists to an existing booking?

I have some undesirable overnight flights for the PER-SIN sectors on trips to and from Europe in June/July.

Unfortunately the more civilised SQ214 and SQ215 were not even options for waitlist at time of booking but are WL now.

The call centre said I need to do it online and they can't do it there. The website said you need to contact the call centre.

Hoping to try again with a different agent but I recall being able to add WL to an existing reservation.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, dajop. I probably prefer the current wine list overall.

Paringa is an interesting choice on that menu...great food there, but I've never thought their wines were particularly good.

So many will probably say so little difference - but as far as the the great 'Pre Covid' ritual of Caviar - Soup - Salad - Main course has gone - it is truly presented so that you will now take either Caviar / 2nd Appetizer / Soup - it is just not the same and smacks of cost cutting when prices gone the other way - zero availability pralines is truly a first world problem but again it smacks of cost cutting - the whole experience just feels cheaper

I used the Live Chat to cancel two bookings yesterday as they failed to cancel online and the points are back in my account today (although advised they could take up to 6 weeks!!) Happy with the process and easier than phoning the call centre and having to explain which flights to cancel and which to leave.

I noticed that SQ have stopped releasing reward seats in the forward calendar - has been stuck at Sat 30 March 2024 for a couple days now. Is that because the new IATA seasonal schedule starts the following day? Or perhaps due to Easter / school holidays? I'm looking to book a reward flight for early April.

Sadly this is totally accurate, and the appeal of SQ is really fading with me.

May as well go to the NZ lounge now in MEL

As for options, EK isn't much better overall and I can't stand to fly QR....

I agree Cruiser Elite.
We don't have F where we are and the J
offering, particularly outbound to Singapore is not good. However we have little choice and I have a "thing" about Qantas.
It seems many businesses have taken "Covid" as an excuse to reduce their service. Hopefully when more flights are avaliable from Australia things may improve.
