Hi All, I have miles expiring end of December, I know there is a 6 month extension if we dont use it.
Question is: If I book an award flight now and a waitlisted option becomes available, am I able to redeposit the miles back to my account to book the waitlisted option?

Expiring Miles - End of December
Flight booked End of January
Waitlist flight early February.

Will the miles go back or will it disappear because it is expired?

@albatross710 , @Cruiser Elite I have a confirmed Saver redemption MEL-SIN in Business on a Thursday.

I am looking to change to the Friday - when I do a search I see the same flight on the Friday offered as a waitlist saver:

If I go to manage my original booking, and select CHANGE, after searching the Friday flight comes up as an option without Waitlist mentioned:

If I select and go to the next page, I see:

My Question is, If I proceed am I moving to a Waitlist rather than confirmed and losing my original booking or will this confirm my booking on Friday's flight?

Well at the risk of any SQ Web Site vagaries I would say YES you are giving up your confirmed J Rdpt for a W/L J Rdpt and if it clears it will clear free of charge - best you contact them if you can before proceeding - that don’t help much does it?

Thanks - How lucky do I feel? Going by reports that SQ call centre wait times are pretty bad (but not as much as QF's) I'll give that a miss.

I guess one solution is to book a waitlist and cancel the Thursday booking should the Friday one be cleared. Of course that comes at a penalty ...

Hi guys,

I am sure there are threads out there on this and i tried reading some other websites on krisflyer waitlists. I was wondering if there are any recent threads on it as i heard since covid singapore airlines have changed in terms of customer service and phone support. I presume with waitlists i will need to call them up on the phone?

What i wanted to do was put down a couple of waitlist options as well as book a flight at a higher points rate for the same day? Or even separate days if i could do that? I just have no idea how it works, as when i tried i was able to only select waitlists for the same points amount as my reserved flight i selected....

Do i have to make it separate bookings to use waitlist for separate points amounts and then if i get the waitlisted flight, I need to use phone support to cancel the other flight and get my points back?

Waitlists work as though you are actually booking the flight, except you don't pay. You select the flight, add the passenger(s) details, and a PNR is created. So you need to have the miles in your account to cover the waitlisted flight, but you can waitlist several/many. The idea being, if you have limited miles in your account, do your waitlists first, then book the flight that's available. And, yes, if a waitlist clears then you will need to call and cancel the booked flight to use those miles.

If it's a route that you already have a ticket on, eg. you're ticketed 25APR SIN/LHR and waitlisted 26APR SIN/LHR and it clears, then it's treated as a date change so there's no need to refund/rebook as long as the waitlist was done in the same PNR as the original SIN/LHR.

@BriarFlyer more recently my experience calling SQ and waiting on hold for a while I have been able to waitlist flights without points in my account. I received the standard blurb about the 3-5 day TTL but asked for that to be extended and was given 6 months. I have also had some waitlists clear for route changes, basically the same start/end point BNE-SIN to MEL-SIN on the same date of travel and cannot remember if the the PNR changed it was the same miles and I seem to recall the taxes changed slightly.

@serfty there were none of the standard USD change penalties applied.

Date and destination changes for confirmed Booking Reference (PNR) flts can easily be done online provided it shows availability - date changes same dest will be free of charge - destination change may require re-pricing with adjustment to pts and $s but that will show online.

You can also change class if you can find availability but obviously that will re-price also.

Again it always depends on availability and given current wait times for calling KF then much better to do online if possible. I have changed dates online for a couple bookings in last month or so and with some other changes I have had to call or use Chatbot

Thanks for that, 40 minutes on hold and the agent could not hear me. They promised a call back within 15 minutes - 13 minutes later they did.

I now have a PNR with both a confirmed segment and one waitlisted for the next day.

Thanks all for the advice!👍

In checking this booking with one confirmed and one waitlisted , I see the following:

Not having a user guide, what does this do if I select it.

I cannot remember exactly however I am pretty sure you will get a message pop up to contact the call centre, in order to confirm the change.

I would recommend you set aside some time put your phone on charge put it on speaker and give SQ a call. As stated above I cannot remember the exact process we went through however MrsM and MissM waitlist flights MEL-SIN were confirmed via a phone call after receiving such a link, their second segment was also confirmed as remaining in tack. I would suggest that like QF the SQ pop-ups and general email messages are just all over the place and not a correct reflection on what is actually in-place.

Emboldened by the reference to "Review Page" implying there is an additional step before comitting, I decided to give it a go.

The wheel spun in the middle of the screen for about 25 seconds then brought my original booking back.

After further research I believe it's likely not the right tool for my situation.
