SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

DId a search this morning BNE-LHR J across various future dates. Nothing available.
Did search for SIN-LHR J across various future dates. Heaps of Saver fares available across vast swathes of dates.
Did search for BNE-SIN across various future dates. Nothing available.
Is there something particular about AUS to SIN award flights/capacity/demand?
I understand there is demand peaks, but the non-availability is consistent.

Commercial fares (that aren't too expensive) can also be expensive between Australia and Singapore. At the moment, it's not unusual to be able to fly much further for much less. An example looking at some flights SIN-MEL return $1900 in economy, which I don't think I will be taking. Same dates could travel to LAX or LHR for $1100 or NYC for $1400 ...

Note that SQ have a sale on currently ex Oz.. I think it ends Jan 29th with K class fares under AUD750 return, BKK/KUL AUD780.

Looking to head to BKK at end-June and do a 1 night stopover in SIN to visit family/friends.

Annoyingly there is availability as separate legs on J Advantage from SYD-SIN for SQ242 and J Advantage on SIN-BKK. But when I do the stopover option the SYD-SIN segment for SQ242 on J J Advantage does not have the "Waitlist" disclaimer (while other flights that day show Waitlist) while the SIN-BKK shows "Available".

Proceeding through the booking but I get notification that the whole booking is on "Waitlist" and so now waiting on the waitlist gods.

Anyone know why that would be?

If you ever told me I would pay for a comm fare MEL-PEK/PVG on CX rather than SQ I would have said you need certifying - but that is exactly what looks like happening on Feb 26 - how the whole world is topsy-turvey post COVID is fascinating

Because of price or availability?

Do they provide the nutritional information on the menu's? I thought they used to have calories, protein, carbs, fats but I haven't flown them since pre pandemic so I can't recall for sure.

Correct - very restricted movements by non Chinese carriers in place - huge amount of applications in place for recommencement of services but NFI how long it will take

I read somewhere on a Chinese forum week or so back that there was something like 6 to 700 applications in place for resumption of services by US and other carriers - no idea of specifics - I’ll try to find it

Edit - here it is - ≈700 weekly passenger flights scheduled to resume, CAAC

It is interesting that most foreign carriers have no immediate plans to increase their China capacity given the documented pent up demand. Qantas has already said they have no plans, but I expected SQ to ramp up services to Shanghai/Beijing given their previous frequencies.

I have asked a couple of people at SQ what their plans are and the reply was that they remain very, very wary of China and suggested they will only operate a minimal service for the foreseeable future.

I suspect it could also be a crew issue? Who wants to risk being sent to China and suddenly finding yourself in a one month lockdown because they change the rules overnight? Fine if your flight was in and out of china, a short haul hop. But not practical for most long haul carriers.

Like many other people, I've been watching availability for Europe next December/January at the 355 day limit and as mentioned above, BNE is a complete blackout. Some in/out of ADL and SYD, but MEL had the best availability.

Unsurprisingly tough to book but managed to get 2x2 J MEL-SIN-LHR on consecutive days in Dec and coming back 4x J IST-SIN-MEL on the same flights in Jan.

Wasn't planning to go to Istanbul but the availability was there and with zone 10 savers at 99K instead of 130.5K for zone 11 it saved a nice chunk of points so I'll book some cash TK tickets for the first hop to IST.

I can see Lufthansa F available (for a flight in 3 days) Any data point on whether Swiss F also bookable via website? Anyone booked more than 3 days before flight? Thanks

Good to finally see some LH F availability. Swiss don’t release award seats in F to partners, or at least they didn’t do it before covid.
