SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

youre right again!
thanks,

ive just discovered
(all in J)
Melb to Sin is
62k
SIn to Taiwan is
30k

Mel to Taiwan is
65k

so its virtually free to go to taiwan, only 3k,

final question, am Iable to book a single trip from Mel to Taiwan but stay in singapore for a few days?
sorry experts for the possibly repeated questions,
just been having a sticky beak
if I search for F Mel to Taiwan, it brings up J only, but for the same dates I do a search for Mel to Singapore in F, it comes up as available, I assume its because there is no F between Sing and Taiwan,

so to overcome this , Ineed to call , and ask for F melb to sing, and then sing to taiwan in J, and then the same return back, but If I want a free stop over, I need to book the return flight together over the phone,

so I ask for, Melb to sing in F, stopover in Sing for 3 days, then a flight J from Sing to Taiwain, and then on the way back exactly the same but just transit in Sing?
A one way F from melb to sing is 85k, will they charge me an extra 30k for the J trip to Sing to taiwan or 3k just like if I were booking J from Melb-Sing-Taiwan like "Mel_traveller" indicated?

They will charge you the F fare MEL-TPE (and return). This entitles you to F mel-sin (and v.v.) and J class Sin-Tpe (and v.v.).

Absolute legend as always meL, thank you

85 vs 88k.
3k Extra to go from sing to taiwan in j

Yes - but also the same price (just 3K more) to fly to HKG but in F (suites) rather than TPE in J. You'd need to buy a separate ticket HKG-TPE to connect with your flights to HKG, but you'd get even more bang for you mile.

I should know this, but don’t. I’ve been travelling with my wife in J on SQ and am in Japan at the moment. I have just noticed that my travel agent put my Kris Flyer number on the reservation, not my Velocity one as I wished, so I haven’t been credited with the rather large number of SCs for my first two flights. Can this be easily fixed and by whom?

gotta love SQ redemptions.
booked a work trip to KUL, the exact dates I wanted (to attend a large oil&gas trade show) on saver and departing in ~2.5wks
All on J!

yes the 11am departure would have been better but I'll take the 8am on the same day :)

They've credited to SQ already? If so, KrisFlyer will need to reverse them out (not all airlines are willing to do this) and then they'd need to be credited to Velocity (and Velocity would need proof the miles haven't been credited elsewhere if it appears on your baording pass).

I haven't done this so can't offer more assistance. In the absence of any other advice which might be forthcoming from other AFFers, I'd probably start by calling krisFlyer, ask them if there's anyway to 'uncredit' the miles. And take it from there. (if they say 'no', perhaps follow up with Velocity for a second opinion.)

Thanks. Bloody travel agent.

I rode 827 PVG-SIN on May 12 - apart from 08:05 dep time which means bloody bfast onboard rather than lunch it was just lovely to exp SQ's old 8 F cabin on 773 - these are same F seats as the original 77W also:

And:

And:

IMG_3086.JPG

See the space fore of Row 1 where pax can cross from L to R aisle for ease of mvnt without needing to access galley:

IMG_3083.JPG

And space aft Row 2 for similar ease of access:

IMG_3085.JPG

Now here is the real upside of old 773 to ALL of the 77W variants:

IMG_3087.JPG

And:

IMG_3088.JPG

They have OVERHEAD BINS - OVERHEAD BINS!!! I really can never come to grips with SQ's assertion that OH bins never installed on all 77W variants because feedback from pax was that they want instant access to HL so on floor in front of pax is where they want it. Absolute codswallop!

IMG_3089.JPG

And no matter which variant of 777 you are on first step is to get Crew to swap out the F Cabin rocks:

For these much more softer and comfortable cushions from the J Cabin:

No question the old F Cabin doesn't have all the bells and whistles like WiFi etc that new cabins have - and yes the Cabin is dated and head rests can be a PITA until you learn how to use them - but by crikey by jingo to me it's like going home - so many memorable flts on these old birds - did I mention I love SQ?

curently on the phone to singapore airlines, trying to get them to explain to me what the stopover policy

so we ve agreed that its $100 USD for a stopover unless its a return flight you get one for free

all good

this next bit has me stumped,

they said that the only place you can stop over for any flight is singapore,
surely this cant be right,
so I asked them, if I were flying from aus to london, obviously I have to transit in singapore, what other countries can I stop over in

this has really confused the staff, (its as though im not speaking english)

and another not making sense statement they made is that "If I was doing a round trip from Mel to Sinagpore and back, then I can add a stop over in for free in SINGAPORE!! "

does anyone have a link to stopovers in laymans terms please?

ive read this, and it doesnt really tell in detail you where you can stop,

For SQ awards (on SQ metal) you can stopover at an SQ stopping point. This requires SQ to have fifth freedom rights for onward carriage. Usually the stopover will be SIN, but if your flight is to New York via FRA, you could stop in FRA. Or in Moscow on the ARN flight. you can also stop in one of SQ's gateways in Asia on a flight to the USA.

For an Australia to Singapore return, there's nowhere you can stopover. Similarly for a MEL-SIN-TPE, the only place you can stopover in SIN.

thanks once again,

ive called them again and spoke to someone else, who looked up a dummy booking and has confirmed that I can stop over from MEL-SIN-HKG-TPE as part of the 1 free stop,
also as an example I asked would MEL-SIN-DXB-LHR be possible , and I got confirmation it is,

is there a list or a map that shows where you can stop?

For the stopover in DXB you'd need to be using a star partner award. And I don't actually believe the agent is correct. There are no star alliance partner flying Dubai to London heathrow. So you could take SQ as far as DXB, but you'd be stuck from there.

In general, if you are using star alliance, you can stopover wherever they stop.

For SQ only awards you have to stop at their fifth freedom cities. There's a thread elsewhere on AFF with a full list of fifth freedom flights.
