For SQ, we've done bassinet in PEY and in J.
both were fine.
think the bassinet is the same anyway.
you will get the bulkhead row for at least one parent, should get two if not too many babies

In J on the new A380 (SQ221) our then 10mo was able to sleep in between us with the infant seat belt on the whole time instead of the bassinet as there was too much ambient light. was great

Thanks for that. So if possible you think centre seats are better than across the aisle from each other?
 
they put us in the centre and I had the bassinet with me as it was the wife's first time in J so I was on bub duty :)
the seats across the aisle were also empty so we could've sat there too. I think the middle is better, if the divider goes right down like the new A380 there is enough space for bub.

the attendants also gave us extra blankets and things to pad the centre gap so it really was a big double bed.

EDIT: see this pic, https://media3.ausbt.com.au/1500,15...pore-airlines-a380-new-business-class-026.jpg we padded the centre with extra blankets till it was the same level as our seats

The problem being that if another passengers requires a bassinet seat, you’re going to get split up, and you don’t know where your other seat will be. Could be rows away.
 
Here’s some pics from suites and F on the 777.

They had assigned 2c/d to someone else prior to check in so had to kick them out when we checked in (and tried to tell us it wasn’t guaranteed- worked out in the end).

Was the same bassinet they use in Y. He ended up sleeping on the double ‘bed’ instead. The FA thought it could be put back up once in bed mode but we didn’t test that assertion.

Luckily had a spare seat on the 777 so he got that all to himself.

Thanks, yea unfortunately at this stage no flights on the new A380 as far as I can tell.

Yep I get that. I will probably leave us across the aisle and then can ask for it at check in if we want think 2 x centre is better. By the time it hits the airport you would hope all people wanting bassinets have allocated their seats.

Actually... if you take the seat across the aisle... i’d be pretty confident that the person sitting on the other side of the bassinet would be happy to swap that seat for your window seat! So it might not be such an issue after all.

ok everyone, so let me see if ive actually learnt anything from the hours of reading, the flights im looking at are june 2018 for 2 relatives, husband and wife, flying F from MEL to EU

fees to do leave LHR are like $433, they want to do a cruise from UK

so ive recommended them to do MEL-LHR, then CDG-MEL on the way back
and that reduces it to 296kpoints + $268 as opposed to $511

J is all available, both ways
for F out of the 4-6 options, only 1 is NOT waitlisted,

so the smart thing to do is waitlist the F both ways, book the confirmed Js
and hope for the best?

obviously, they will have to catch a plane/train from UK to CDG

how does that look?

so ive recommended them to do MEL-LHR, then CDG-MEL on the way back
and that reduces it to 296kpoints + $268 as opposed to $511

Unless they really want to visit paris, it may be a false economy to leave from there. Picking a random date in November, the one way eurostar is £44 per person in standard basic economy, or around $80. So they’re saving about $150 per person, but adding at least 5-6 hours on to the trip. And not very comfortable hours at that.

If the flights have convenient timing for the flights where F is available, why not book directly into F? Yes, it will cost more (priced at the higher F fare), but when will they have the opportunity to fly F again?

I was thinking they could do a return trip straight to LHR, but extend the singapore stop over for a few days instead,

but now Im definitely going to offer them the option to go straight to and from LHR even if it will cost the extra

but great suggestion, I have read on these forums people changing airports to save a few dollars and my initial feeling was "geez that seems like a lot of hard work "

And also in my experience there is the factor of getting from train station to airport....if relatives choose taxi that would chew up any perceived savings !!
If they choose F from LHR make sure they ask for buggy and the look on their faces as the driver takes them in lift to lounge and exits on another floor will be worth the extra APD from LHR ...as my 90 year father with dementia says when he asks about our family..."keep 'em happy"

I think that most are not doing it to only save a few $$, but rather where they wish to see both the UK and part of Europe as it can make sense to fly into the UK and out of Europe unless one has a reason to be in the UK last.


I also regularly fly in and out of two different airports as it:
- saves me time by not having to backtrack
- saves visiting the one city twice

One upside can be as you mentioned being able to book a free stopover. Negatives can be waiting for the second return leg to open and perhaps losing availability for one's preferred flights going over that may be there when availability first opens and may have gone the 2 weeks/3 months or whatever the gap is when the window to book the return leg opens. Having two one-ways also allows greater freedom change ones plans later.

yes stop over in singapore sounds like a great plan B, tis like kiling two birds with one stone,
I assume to book a say 3-5 day stopover in singapore, you book separate legs eg MEL to SIN, SIN to LHR, rather than MEL to LHR
 
Have tried a search but no joy so apologies if this query about A380 J seating has already been answered elsewhere.
We are travelling MXP - SIN - MEL in October in J and I selected 96 A&K for the SIN - MEL leg to avoid the uncomfortable foot tunnel.
But there was a minor time change a few days ago and I now realise SQ has substituted an A380 with a different seat map - naturally our seat selections have "gone up in smoke".

The aircraft we are on now has all the J seats on the upper deck but only in Rows 11 - 27 (their other A380s also have J in Rows 91 - 97)
I read a short while back about SQ having new J seats - so my questions are:
Would the J seat configuration of the plane we are now on indicate that it is fitted with the new J seats?
Have the new J seats done away with the narrow tunnel one is expected to put you feet into?
What are the best J seats to go for with this new configuration (only one seat is showing in R14 and one in R15 ATM but most of the rear cabin is available)?

Any tips appreciated
