SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Still no bottom line on these multi class bookings.
Premature expostulation alexy?
Received call at 4pm this arvo letting me know that my points of 127,500 are sufficient to cover the booking. Confirmed my ticket and paid the tax
Seems the response from SQ's Customer Relations Manager was pretty much on the money hey alexy.

Youthful exuberance - it's a beautiful thing. ;)

SQ25 FRA-SIN menu was showing choice of:

Clonakilla.JPG OR RWT.JPG

Balled my eyes out when crew informed me the Clonakilla was loaded and not the RWT!

Oh and for info those long standing champagne denied QF F pax they loaded 5 x Krug and 5 x Dom for the 8 pax on the flt - I did my best but the Champs won by a KO!

Looking forward to my first ever F flight with Miss Alex on SQ211 (777-300er) seats 2C/2D.

Not looking forward to my JQ Y flight to DPS and been treated like cattle once again.

goodness Alexy23- are you flying JQ to DPS and then SQ F home?? At least it's not the other way around or there might be tears!! We flew VA J / SQ J and that was enough of a contrast!

Success for MEL-SIN-HAN DAD-SIN-MEL! I called the call centre tonight.. on the phone for over an hour. Got very, very firm when told it was actually being appealed a 2nd time for the true fare rate, and that it would take 3 more days to be finalised. 10minutes later, the consultant called me back and was able to take payment and issue the tickets for the true fare rate! Very frustrating that they had no record of my last 2 conversations with them confirming the true rate was applicable... but definitely worth holding out for.

If not for Mrs Tizey getting annoyed that we'd not be sitting next to each other, the urge to book Seat 1A is very strong. Am we better off in 1C/1D or 2C/2D? I'm tipping it doesnt really matter... only for the 'Row 1' have I taken 1B/1C.

This utilises every last bit of annual leave now, so no more bookings for some time. My last international flight was on JQ Y MEL-NRT return.... my next trips (and foray into J & F) are now:
- MEL-SIN-ZUR with SQ (A380 J whole way)
- ZUR-SIN-MEL with SQ (A380 F whole way)
- MEL-SIN-HAD with SQ (77W F, 200ER J)
- DAD-SIN-MEL with SQ (737-800 J, 77W F)

I've never, ever been excited for the plane journey.. until now!

On the 77W row 2 will give you more sense of space - the bulkhead isn't smack-bang in front. Also slightly less foot traffic and more privacy as you don't have the pax in row 2 (or crew) walking by.

We thought we'd mix it up a bit JQ Y with SQ F :)

SQ to DPS was too much hassle and JQ J is not worth it as a commercial fare. School holidays so no awards left in JQ/VA.

Slightly OT but any views on which of the transit hotels at Changi are the quietest for a 9 hours stopover between SQ flights ie no issues with luggage- seem to remember reading on here that one of them was quite noisy as you could hear the SQ buggies all night. Thanks in advance

We use Crowne Plaza which costs a bit more but the place works well. I think it is worth having a look. We get there quickly and get the air conditioning running sweetly.

Not sure about noise but the one in T1 has a pool aswell

I posted a while back that I was warned that T2 Transit Hotel would be subjected to considerable noise during night due to renos so I may net get much sleep - I went over to T3 - but that was months back so renos should be completed.

T1, T2 or T3 all ok - book early as they fill regularly and not all rooms are self contained. IMHO they are perfect for short stint - I have only ever booked 6hrs - not sure if 9hr bookings possible. Just call and clarify - there phone service is pretty good.

CP certainly did offer day rates - but I am not overly keen on CP due to their hard beds. Still it is very handy.

Last time I stayed in T3 it was about $20 for each additional hour, after purchasing the 6 hour block.

Is there an easy way of checking availability of points upgrades before booking the flights? (Short of calling the local number).

Thanks!

Too easy...

I know that many times various posters have recommended the SYD SQ KF/PPS number (02 8228 1188) to quickly solve an issue with a booking. This morning I had an opportunity to use the number and got through immediately to Chloe who could not have been more helpful and professional in re-booking a segment I had got wrong on an online reservation over the weekend.

In a senior moment, I had selected the wrong flight between HKG and SIN on a multi-city booking and could not make a change on-line. I thought there would be a change fee to move later the same day but this was either not applied or waived when I asked to move from an 0800 to an 1800 flight.

Most efficiently done and completed in record time.

Thanks for the advice.

Just some quick tales of my recent suite adventures.

On our MEL-SIN flight, somehow managed to finish a whole bottle of Krug on the Redeye flight. Goes down like water ;) Had a full day and 1 one night stopover in SIN before going to LHR and had a massive headache most of the day. I would not recommend doing that again. Completely my fault.

Our SIN-LHR flight was much better, as it was a day flight and got full meal service. One of the attendants was really bad, she kept suggesting on filling up my glass of krug and and other beverages during the meal service. This is probably why I felt like a zombie upon arrival in LHR :D. One embarassing/awkward moment was when I was getting up to go change to pjs, one of the stewards helped me open and close the toilet. Upon getting changed, pretty much half naked, said steward opens the toilet door and immediately closes it realising I was in there :( Very awkward after that point. I didn't think to lock the door as it was closed for me by the steward. So tip for toilet, make sure you lock the door. Same thing happened to my wife when she went to go use the toilet, a stewardess opened+closed the door for her and she forgot to lock it since it was closed for her, and then couple mins later, a stewardess opened her toilet, which I thought was funny at the time. When i told her of my awkward encounter she laughed at me :(

Had breakfast in the Senator lounge in ZRH and it was quite average. Only hot food on offer was eggs cooked one of three ways. Otherwise it's an amazing lounge considering the whiskey bar and the deck to look at everything outside but I think only one side of the lounge opens to the deck and there weren't any impressive planes in sight, e.g. a380, which was all the way at the end of the terminal.

The manager in TPR upon arrival in in SIN at 6am from ZRH was very nice. She noticed our flight was at 12am that night and offered to book the transit hotel if we wanted. Declined as we wanted to go out for most of the day.

Hi guys,

Some advice required.

I can ticket MEL - SIN - FRA - JFK as a oneway Krisflyer J Saver Award.

The MEL - SIN - FRA are perfect dates and i dont want to lose them, however FRA-JFK isnt the date i want as it hasn't been released yet (i.e. too far out). If i go ahead and ticket the flight regardless i have some questions should i wish to change the FRA - JFK. My rational for ticketing is the MEL - SIN - FRA are perfect dates and in peak season and i dont want to lose them.

Questions

- Is the date change process as simple as waitlisting the preferred dates and linking them to my original ticket number? Do i link them when they go onto the waitlist initially or once the waitlist has come through as available?
- Can i change dates of the FRA-JFK after i have commenced the trip (as ill be in Europe for quite some time and as we all know waitlist flights can often become available last minute)

If anyone has experience with this it would be great to hear.

Ill give Krisflyer a call once I have some insider knowledge in the case i have to HUCA.

Thanks in advance

My understanding is once you've undertaken the flight you won't be able to change the legs i.e No to Q2.

What I would do is book what you can now and keep an eye on the availability for the flights you want. That way you've got guaranteed flights as it is.

SQ's change fees are very good so is a non-issue.

I seem not to be having the same luck!

I called them this morning and they were helpful and I managed to book the flights I wanted and secure the upgrades.

Except I managed to book the wrong fare class (heaven knows what they have that little arrow at the top vs just displaying them all as fixed columns). And that's when the issues have started - 8228 number was unable to cancel the booking I had made 2 mins prior and suggested I call the 13 10 11 number. Did that and they could not help and told me someone would call me back within 24 hours. When pushed, this was revised to by the end of the day.

All because to change the booking in Manage My Booking comes up with a fare that is around $90 more than if I'd booked it correct from the start.

Frustrating as this was all happening within minutes of the booking being made and 6 hours later I still have not been contacted.

Meanwhile I have seat upgrades being held as reserved - but not sure how long they will hold for given there was pretty limited availability to begin with.

Am very disappointed in SQ at the moment :(

Still no call after the 24 hours so tried the 8228 number again. Apparently no task was even created in the system for me to get a call. I was promised a call back within the hour - and that was coming up 2 hours ago.
