SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

the flights I took just this weekend past were 1) In the main cabin (11A)

FWIW - I'm way more in love with 19A/K than 11A/K. Given the amount of love that R11 gets here and in other places, I found it massively underwhelming. 19A/K has way more storage and a better feeling of "space" - something that's priceless on an aircraft!!
Which is what I have been trying to say up thread - did you get a pic of 11A at all? Does 11A have that forward storage space beside window that 19A does?

@MathNerd, Thanks for the feedback. What’s it like sleeping right next to the aisle in 19 A/K? Not much privacy?

I sure do mate - see below!

11A (notice it's just the IFE screen and a hangar hook):

19A (notice the massive storage space where a backpack, a carry bag, a water bottle and a jacket all fit):

I think it's quite clear that 19A is the clear winner here.

Fortunately I only chose 11A for a short 4hr hop, just to try it out - all the other 3 flights of my trip were in 19A/K :)

No worries @get me outta here. Well I didn't see anyone while sleeping so I'm guessing nobody could see me too (unless they stood right next to the seat)!

So the perk of 11A is no chance of having to change your seat due to babies unlike 19A?
Yep - I'll go out on a limb and say it is the only perk of 11A compared to 19A.
Unless you count disembarking earlier as a perk as well, then maybe there's 2 perks... haha!

Math Nerd do you see any advantage of selecting 11A/K over any other J seat other than 19A/K?

IMHO I would never select either 11A or K as all you do is stare at a wall in front of you - I could imagine feeling really claustro in both

The only advantage of 11A/K compared to any other J seat (with the bold exception of 19A/K) is the full width leg rest space, as the other seats have the leg space at an angle.
No feeling of claustrophobia from my side but I did sleep during the whole flight so there was no chance to "see" any claustrophobia implement its ugly head!
19A/K for the win @Cruiser Elite!

You stare at the TV screen, no more claustrophobic than row 19. It’s the width of seats that is the issue in 350 reg not so much the space around.

And you are still missing the fact of the extra storage space window side of TV screen 19A/K - you may not feel claustro but maybe others feel different - as I said I would never choose 11A/K but I never intend to do an o/n flt on 350 Reg so is a moot point for me

No issues with storage in row 11, I’ve sat there more than I wish (because no F availability) and never had storage issues. If you want to dig and look for disadvantages then row 11 is close to the galley kitchen making it more noisy than row 19*.

*Thats on 350 reg. On 350 long haul galley kitchen is between rows 18 and 19, making row 11 better for sleeping.

Keep it on topic bucko - apples v apples pls - but if you want to go to other metal I would never select 1A or 1K in new R - sitting in those it feels like your snout is pressed against the TV screen - no doubt you will disagree with that also.

If you don’t start to behave yourself I’ll get Sonia and Tania to ban you from OT and you and your mate Qaz can head to Steer instead

BUT - Let’s not gloss over the most important point made by Math Nerd in all these postings today - SQ’s soft product is still as SPECTACULAR as it ever was - the best part of my 217 flt Apr 5 on 350 Reg was the way Fern and her J Cabin colleagues looked after me entirity of flt

Been so long since I’ve sat on 1A/K on new R that I really don’t remember. From memory row 3 is the best if you fly solo but I’ll know better next week…

No argument SQ soft product is spectacular, did anyone said otherwise? Hard to think of an airline who does it better. The Japanese are known for flawless service from start to finish but I wouldn’t say much better than SQ.

Use the OT ban wisely, it’s your doomsday weapon 😂

Nope 2A/K are the only ones to select if you are solo traveller and Row 1 seats aren’t selected - you then stand a chance of getting the ‘pair’ to yourself - I’ve had 1/2K combo to myself twice so far 👍

Yes sorry I meant if you fly solo and don’t have chance for double bed row 3 is better for privacy, something to do with the position or the chair. I say this from distant memory, been too long since I’ve been in R.

If vacant I always choose 2K - it just feels a tad bigger that 3K

See how lose Row 1 seats are to TV screens?

Yes 1A>2A>3A in terms of size although you will agree all are grossly oversized to begin with. For some reason I remember row 3 seat don’t have the awkward position starring at the pax opposite. I’ll have to dig in and look for photos i took a while ago.

“Singapore Airlines passengers on the world's longest non-stop flights now have the option to select new wellness dishes, designed in partnership with one of the world's most exclusive spas.
After three years working with Canyon Ranch for its wellness cuisine and in-flight well being programmes on ultra-long-haul services, last year Singapore Airlines announced a new partnership with high-end U.S. spa retreat Golden Door.”

“Remember these Golden Door wellness options are only available in the USA to Singapore direction, with only regular menus alongside SIA’s ‘Book the Cook’ service offered for those departing from Changi.“

Anyone had issues doing ticket changes through the call centre where payments wouldn't go through?

Last Thursday i needed to change a future dated BOM-SIN flight to the next available DEL-SIN, was changed and there was a SG$120 fare difference. However no matter what card i tried to pay with over the ensuing 18 hours and numerous phone calls, payments were apparently being rejected.

Amex reported they had no attempted transactions on my card, in the end i paid for a whole new booking 3 hours out from boarding to ensure i got home, using the very same Amex card for around SG$950.

Any idea what may have gone wrong??

Also, loved SQ premium economy on both the 777 and a380, certainly more comfortable than BA business class was on the 787-900
