SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Flew DEL-SIN a couple of weeks ago, in J on an older A380. Acknowledging that my previous flight was in F, I still found this one quite poor.

I actually find the India-SIN redeye's probably consistently worst SQ flights I take, although usually DEL is a bit better as it leaves a little earlier and is a bit longer. I am not sure what exactly it is, probably a combination of grumpy passengers because of the hour, grumpy crew because of the hour, relatively short overnight flight, and/or the rather demanding nature of many passengers (that leads to a certain attitude amongst the crew). I also have a hunch these routes are the lowest down the pecking order= and get a greater share of less competent cabin crew, compared to other routes.

Interesting. Is this in all classes? But agree my one flight felt sloppy and that the staff just wanted the time to pass. Not that they were bad or rude, and I didn’t observe any of the pax being disruptive or demanding.

My flight up to Bombay was in F and was one of the best I’d ever had in terms of service and food (though now surpassed by a few EK flights).

And thank you for quoting my post because it highlighted a terrible error I made. My flight was not DEL-SIN but BOM-SIN. My apologies.

Well I can't comment on F or Y+, but certainly in J and Y, and usually only on the flights back, not the flights too India. That you were on the BOM-SIN flight makes more sense too, as it's shorter and later . I'm not sure if I've ever noticed anything overtly demanding from passengers in business class, but I have in Y, not disruptive .... just demanding.

Did DEL - SIN in F a few weeks ago and service/food was good - no disruptive pax.

some potentially bad news re ability to add a stopover to a 1 way award posted over at OMAAT overnight. i.e. no longer allowed even for the USD$100 fee.

Wasn't massively impressed with our flight on Tuesday night, SQ277 from SIN to MEL (in J).

Over 90 minutes before meal service even started, which on a 9.50pm departure is just too late. I gave up after my main and had my bed made up.

Slept relatively well, though the foot cubby on the newer seat is a bit smaller than the old one. Seat has much better storage though which is appreciated.

Woke up when they announced that we were about 45 minutes out from landing, got changed and made my bed back into a seat. FA offered me a drink and I received a cuppa. Up the right hand aisle the FA was running croissants out to everyone for a quick snack before landing, but no such luck on my side (except for the guy in the window seat). Had to flag down an FA to ask for food, and was finally bought a croissant, but nothing to go with it (not even butter). While I get that I'd slept through the time they would have done a breakfast service (as did everyone), it seemed a bit odd that some FAs were proactive in getting food out to people as they woke up, but only on one side of the cabin.

SQ meal service timings and durations are the one downside to their experience. Breakfast is often served 2 hours before landing at 6am in Singapore - really irritating on 8 hour overnight hops.

Ours was barely a 6 hour hop due to tail winds. Which made the slow meal even more irritating.

Thanks for sharing, the last comment on that link quotes only part of the T&C:
No stopovers are permitted for one-way awards. One complimentary en route stopover is permitted for round-trip awards. Up to three more additional stopovers are also permitted at US$100 each, regardless of the class of service.

Which is from the T&C relating to star alliance awards, and it has always been that way for star alliance awards. For Singapore Airlines/Silk Air awards there are different T&C and they do allow stopovers to be added for US$100 on one way saver awards (one is complementary on one way advantage awards).

I will say, I did like Etihad dine on demand. I just found it so easy, give meal choices on boarding, discuss timing ect and that was it. Found it relaxing in comparison to SQ where you sit and wait and wait and wait until its your turn.
