SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have often seen people walking Las Vegas streets drinking from jugs of beer mid morning ...
So you actually saw me in Vegas but didn’t say hello? Lovely! Just lovely!

On a serious note I am en-route to Reno - trade show thus years transferred from Vegas to Reno - that’s such a humungous downgrade kinda like going from MEL to ADL or BNE - almost wrist splitting downgrade huh?

Just had = to the worst meal ever I have had on SQ F - serous feed back will reqd.

Anybody dep MEL need to check onboard menu - if you see Lamb Loin with Eggplant Purée BTC imm - anything but this.

For aesthetics they should not serve the eggplant which is an insipid colour at the best of times, next to the meat. The red capsicum should be between. I like eggplant.

Its reward, and the 8 hr layover leaves SIN at 23:55 so not a great time and the 22hr layover leaves at around 14:00 so nice time,
what are the options with airside transit hotel??

Thanks

I did the Frankfurt flight in 2014 having left Brisbane the previous day. Also had around a 22 hour layover. Booked the Novotel Clarke Quay (if an Accor member you can get rates of around $180 in Accor sales). Was able to enjoy a great dinner that night and long walk with good local breakfast the next morning. Did not leave the Novotel until around 11.30 the next morning which left around 2 hours in the lounge.

Another Accor option is the Ibis Bencoolen which is around $100 annd very well situated.

We had a night in T2 Transit hotel in July this year on the way to Sri Lanka. Booked for 9 hours and cost was around $185. Romm was adequate though an internal room only.

If transit time is 22 hours that is pleanty of time to enjoy Singapore!

Thanks for the replies, we stayed at the Clarke Quay Novatel last year it's in a great location, I think that will be my best bet, as would rather get to my final destination in a good state

What do you guys prefer in J the A380-800 or the 777-300 ER just looking to optimise my booking lol

Thanks
Clive

The issue with the 777 is the farther you go back in the cabin, the more noise and vibration you get from the engines. I had to change seats from the front to the rear of the cabin in flight and the noise was really noticeable just over the space of a few metres. So on that basis the A380 wins.

But it might also depend on an upgraded 777 vs old A380 in terms of seat. Although to be honest the age of the seat doesn't really trouble me (nor the quality of the IFE screen, but if those are important to you it's something to consider).

I love SQ but they need to replace/refurbish some of the regional 330s asap. After coming off a 350 that was great (had the whole rear J cabin to ourselves with great service), it was a real let down to transfer to an intra-Asia 330 where the interior was dirty and falling apart. Service was good but food pretty bad as well.

They are in the process of rolling out the 787-10 for regional flights but the longer routes are receivig them first.

J on an SQ 330 still beats most of their competitors intra Asia where they run the plane.

The angle flat seats don't actually bother me that much if they're in decent shape. It was the condition of the plane that stood out as terrible.

Im still trying to optimize our J flight to Europe lol, how do you all rank the A380-800 compared to the A350-900 for the SIN to (Europe somewhere in or near Germany)
Im going to stop optimizing and just book it eventually

Thanks

Clive

you won't be disappointed with any of them.. just do it!
I do Germany (Frankfurt or Munich) a couple of times every year. Have been doing it in J in '17 & '18. Done A380 old & new, 777 & A350. all were great.

The A350 is not everyone's cup of tea. The seat layout can mean it's a bit cramped, especially in the seated position. If you're short, it's probably ok. If you can score bulkheads on the A350 the problem goes away (you can see if these are available a few days before departure).

The A350 is newer, lower cabin altitude etc etc. But the A380 is nice and big!

SQ32 SIN-SFO overnight, weirdly for a transpac flight the breakfast was served about 10 hours in - i.e. six hours before arrival! I’ve never seen this before, can’t think why they would do it that way and it would still have been 7pm Singapore time and around 2am in San Francisco. Is anyone able to shed any light on the logic behind this one?
