SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

That was not very nice what datsuzei said if they mean what I think it means. Should definitely report it on FT.
I just put a report in using my nick over there.

I do however find some parts of Flyertalk useful. For example their Africa sub-forum has a lot of good material that was very useful in planing my African Trip.

Idiots are everywhere though.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hey quick question I have a hkt-per booking I want to cancel and reroute bkk-per now points won't be back in the account in time are they able to exchange the ticket on the spot without waiting for the miles to recredit? And whoever c&p other people's work ain't cool

Your best bet is to call them. They can usually re-credit the points on the spot, it's the taxes that can take a while.

it took few days for my points to be re-deposit to my account on recent cancellation..

Well, you pretty much have to call anyway, and there's nothing to be lost by asking, especially now. I got my points back on the spot the last couple of times.

Called up to try and add a wait list flight to confirmed itinerary, mel-dps ret. Wasn't allowed. Anywho, was told that if wait list clears they would have to separate the itinerary into 2 separate one way tickets. Was Hoping to make the most of the free stopover but looks like booking return tickets is becoming inconvenient.

I was deciding whether to transfer Amex MR points to KF to make use of the current award chart. Decided against it as the cash outlay is probably a bit too great for me at the moment. I'm now hoping to perhaps use the points on CX to the US in the future.

Seems the offending post has disappeared.
After I was alerted to the unauthorised re-posting on FT of information I posted in this thread I contacted FT Admin and requested it be removed - I also contacted a FT SQ Moderator and requested same - I also contacted offending poster and respectfully requested he / she remove the post. This morning I see the post has been removed but I have received ZERO response from any of the individuals I contacted. This saga is just further evidence of what a disgrace FT is and why I have ZERO intention of ever participating on that site again.
...and so has CE's post here :(
Removed by a Mod at my request. I did not retain a copy of what I posted so if said Mod would cares to PM me the contents I will remove a sentence or two and repost the info.

Edit: 1 min after posting above I rcvd email from FT Admin advising that offending post had been removed.

As you are all aware there are imminent changes to the SQ Award Chart slated to take affect as of 23/03/2017. There has been considerable conjecture here and in other threads as to what affects changes to existing bookings made prior to Award Chart change date will be subjected to. Indeed some AFF members have reported contradictory responses to similar questions posed to SQ KF Call Ctr Agents.

I have had a number of conversations with my contacts within KF and I am almost 100% confident the information I am about to post is correct.

Award Level Redemptions – When seeking an Award Redemption (AR) and Saver Redemption (SR) are showing WL and pax chooses to secure WL but then also proceeds to secure a Standard Redemption (StdR) and pays reqd pts and charges to confirm booking to ticket issuance – should the SR WL subsequently clear then pax cannot confirm SR and cancel StdR and expect refund of additional pts already paid at StdR level compared to SR level – pts will just not be refunded.

Revalidation of Tickets – Any redemption made prior to Mar 23 at any redemption level – SR, StdR of Full Redemption (FR) – is eligible for date change, flt timing change or deletion of a pax from multi pax booking post Mar 23 at ZERO pts or $ penalty – they are revalidated at equivalent rates to what existed prior to Mar 23.

Reissue of Tickets - Any redemption made prior to Mar 23 at any redemption level – SR, StdR of FR – where pax desires to change Port of Origin, Destination Port*, addition of pax to confirmed and ticketed booking, changes to redemption class or change cabin class will require existing confirmed booking to be cancelled and reissued as new booking. Such reissue will be at new Redemption Rates on SQ Award Chart applicable post Mar 23 - pts a charges previously paid will be refunded in full and reqd pts and charges for reissued tix will be levied separately.

Revalidation and reissue rules are not changing – it is merely the pts required for ARs as per Award Chart that is changing as of Mar 23.

Of course all and any changes are totally dependant on availability of redemption inventory on desired route and required date of travel.

*Change of Destination Port was previously also considered to only require revalidation of tix but this changed a few mths back and I had not come across this in that time so I apologise for misleading 1 or 2 AFFERs over last few weeks.

I hope this helps and again if you have any queries you really should contact KF direct as ultimately they will have the last say.

KF Call Ctr staff are also a bit like all of us - they have never done a change requiring the differing award chart rates so to some extent it is very much a learning curve for all.

Thanks for the update CE - it's always tricky when a program makes changes but you've been a great help to many on here.

I think my previous thanks may have got wiped also because I quoted you - no drama- but I definitely want to put that back here.
Thanks Cruiser, you're an absolute font of info, really enjoy your enthusiasm and humour too!

I looked at doing this booking, but I think I have decided not to. You experts may be able to offer me advice but I was looking to go rtn (to get the stopover) SYD-ZRH. It seems at the moment the redemption for 2 would be 450500 + AU$1842.48 which is made of taxes being AU$341.28 + surcharges of AU$1501.20.

From my understanding, under the new system I will have to pay 590000 +AU$341.28 (assuming taxes don't change) but the surcharge will disappear. If that's correct, I'm up for an additional 141500 miles but at a saving of $1501.20, therefore AU1.1c per point (I've never really valued KF points, but I would have though AU1.5c/pt would be more like it, but it's still not totally ridiculous). Probably more important is the question "how much can I buy 141500 points for"? I'd suggest (without going and looking at current CC offers) that I could likely find 3 cards that would achieve that at around AU$1000 or in any case, less than au$1500 (any comment?).

Also importantly for us, we really do not want to go to Europe in Winter so the timing is wrong (we're intending 2019).

... and then came somebody suggesting *A RTW for 260000 (I think), which has me thinking that I have very little to gain by rushing into a booking now, but possibly a lot more options by waiting. The only thing really bothering me is whether that little rumour about SQ locking down suite redemptions to status pax, turns out to be true!

Can anyone see any glaring stuff ups I'm making with my thought process?

Better off taking a trip when you actually want to take it, even if the cost equation changes slightly.

I don't think the "little rumour about SQ locking down suite redemptions to status pax" has even really been elevated to "rumour" status, it seemed to be more speculation than anything else.

From previous recent excellent Cruiser advice, it would seem that even if you book for a date you don't want, the bkg can be a place holder to change the date later as the preferred flight dates become available. It seems that this will be at no further cost.

Hi all,

Hoping the SQ experts can help me out here.

I am booked for my first SQ flight to Europe for work in May.

Flying in Premium Economy but have enough points to upgrade a couple of legs to Business which I'd love to do as I have never flown SQ business and heard mixed reports on Premium Economy.

My dilemma however is that I need to have these flights credited to VA to maintain gold.

Can I upgrade with my SQ FF number and after the upgrade is confirmed change my FF number back to VA. Haven't been able to find a definitive answer and don't want to take a punt on it, because if it fails I drop back to silver in VA.

Thanks all.

No one has an answer for me? Thought someone on here would have faced this issue in the past.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

change of destination was always a reissue. that hasn't changed.

the rules at play here are straightforward ... anything that requires a simple revalidation (date or time changes) will be done under the old levels.

anything that requires a reissue (change to origin, destination) will be subject to a reprice at the current mileage of the day.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

I was charged a reissue fee, over the phone, for simply changing my return ticket from SGN-SIN(no stopover)-MEL to SGN-SIN(Stopover)-MEL. Is this correct?

Also importantly for us, we really do not want to go to Europe in Winter so the timing is wrong (we're intending 2019).

So that is at least say May 2019?

That is a long way off and your travel plans do not seem to have any firm destinations you want to be at.

I think that you would be much better off waiting till you decide what you exactly want to do and then booking, which would say be from about May 2018 on.

For myself the flight is part of a holiday and not vice-versa.

The only thing really bothering me is whether that little rumour about SQ locking down suite redemptions to status pax, turns out to be true!

Well that is only a rumor, and probably more just speculation based on the Suite refit where it seems from reports that the number of Suites per flight are to be markedly reduced in number. The refit will take a while to work through all the planes that have Suites. the effect of redemptions in advance is unknown, and down the track it may depend in part on how many paying pax SQ gain for the "new" Suites. I certainly would not this be driving your decision making for bookings in the immediate to near future.

In addition IF Suite rewards did become harder to get, booking now with a strategy of moving the date of the flights would not help you in terms of availability as you can only move to a date that has award availability. You would just be left with a booking that you could not move!
