SQ/TATA mulls bid for Air India (AI)

I can only hope it goes well for SIA, they may not had much success with overseas investments overall, losing billions (especially with the 3-time failures in Australia), but a combined AI/UK has huge potential with the very large Indian market.
I wonder if VA might look to add them as a partner eventually

AI does have interlines with both Australian carriers atm. Whether if one of them gets upgraded to a codeshare remains to be seen.

That would be quite some turn around, from declining service standards due to lack of cash flow, to a mega order of new planes. Huge developing middle class in India so guess large numbers of planes needed.

The financial wizardry needed to pay for that sized order boggles my mind. Maybe the same backers that bought/own the financial black hole coal mine in WA where money and the real world seem totally disconnected. 😳

The aircraft 'order' has now been 'officially' announced. However it seems that the use of the word 'order' may still be a big optimistic. There is a lot of chatter around that what has actually happened is the signing of 'Letters of Intent' which are not firm commitments.

I really hope Vistara’s standards aren’t lowered with this. Absolutely fantastic J flight with them and a couple of terrible experiences in AI J

AI is certainly trying hard to improve their service, although I have to say I’ve never had a bad flight with them over my 50-year history flying them. Vistara was ‘ok’ on my recent flight ex CDG. They mix a mean pina colada, of all things. But while the crew were lovely, the catering wasn’t that much better than AI mainline.

I flew DEL-CDG and the crew and catering out of DEL was top notch.
I’ve only had a few long haul flights in J with AI some years back and they were that poor that I’ve avoided them since. I must give them another go
