Just looking at the following on the SQ website.... for redemption bookings...

"Complimentary Stopovers
You have a choice of twelve award types, each requiring different redemption mileage. Please refer to the table below for the validity and number of complimentary stopovers available with each award ticket type for Online Redemption Booking. Please note that a stopover is not a transit. A stopover means you will be in the stopover city for 24 hours or longer before your next flight.
Complimentary Stopovers

Economy Saver, Business Saver, First Saver
Economy Class, Business Class, First Class
One-way
No stopover
One stopover
Round-trip
One Stopover
Two stopovers
Validity of award tickets"
Six months
Twelve months

My travel plans are BKK - CGK via SIN.

I would like to spend a night in SIN. However I only have enough points for an "Economy Saver" ticket - NOT the "Economy Class" Ticket.

The SQ on-line redemption booking does not allow different departure and arrival dates for the final destination (CGK).

I suppose, (and I have seen this question posed before, just can't find the thread) of the distinction between "Stopover" and "Transit".

Is it possible to be able to clear immigration, spend the night at Crazyhor(s)e then get an outbound flight the following day - without being in "stopover". I thought "transit" meant hanging around the airport?

Has anyone been able to spend less than 24 hours in "Transit" meaning to clear Customs and then do stuff outside the airport - using a SG "Saver" redemption booking?

Please advise - cheers

In Singapore, no such restrictions , all it means that you have less than 24 hrs between flights. I believe, even with 5 hrs in Singapore, you could quite easily pass through immigration, catch a taxi to a restaurant in the centre of the city, enjoy a meal and return to the airport in time for your next flight. I've certainly arrived there at 9pm, gone into town for a sleep and "meetings" (both later that night over a drink ... and then proper ones in our office there the following morning) and left on an onward flight in Asia late the following afternoon.

I think a stopover is classed as anything >24 hours.

Transit means you can do anything you want with your time. Within limits anyway.

Ian, if that means you want to do a bus tour of SIN or visit Orchard Plaza then so be it. Immigration or customs does not need to know where you are going. Just write on the immigration form transit of <24 hours. Once through immigration you can check back in or go for a taxi trip into town.

I think the class of the award ticket is irrelevant. I have gone outside of the airport on transits of <3 hours in SIN and HKG without any great hassle.

The rules of the ticket allow it, but not sure how to go about coaxing the booking engine into letting you do it!

you can always book over the phone, albeit losing the online booking discount

no problem at all with short transits in Singapore - in fact they encourage it
immigration is open 24/7 so I have been known to head out for food and drinks with friends on arrival mid evening and return in the wee small hours of the morning

Thanks Guys, THe root issure that has been summarised aove - refers to the SQ Online booking engine - in other words - is it possible to book a flight in to and out of Singapore - on different days - and still be in Transit? I could NOt seem to achieve this.

I do have just enough points to do so - if I use the Telephone booking service.

will let you know what transpires

Not sure exactly, but it appears that bookings that involve the SQ definition of "transit" are not able to be booked, using the on line booking engine - as the online booking engine requires that both legs of the trip need to be in the same day.

It is possible to be performed via the phone :D

Which now leaves me with a Krisflyer balance of 121 points :)
