SQ Melbourne to Hong Kong for $590 return

Singapore Airlines currently has a sale on to Asia (and Europe), and there are some very sharp fares available in particular to Hong Kong, South Korea, Vietnam, India and mainland China.

For example, MEL-HKG is available from $590 return in Y (via SIN). Similar prices are also available from other Australian cities (e.g. SYD-HKG is just over $600 return). Not bad - these are the kinds of sale fares we used to see occasionally back in 2016.

Perhaps we're seeing the effects of the economic slowdown now properly hitting the airline industry and that forward bookings are really drying up.

Qantas prices to some areas are actually decent now. MEL <> SIN is sharper than SQ (excluding this sale) and sub 900 for the offpeak. I think i was comparing 850 for QF to 1400 for SQ in Y.

Just the "premium" routes and seats are .. well premium.

I’m waiting for QF to bring back the $599 return fares to HKG they had pre-covid. With the economy only getting worse it’s just a matter of time until we’ll see these kinds of sales across the board.
