On 31/10/12 I made a Saver award booking for LHR-SIN-MEL for May next year. Today they sent me an email to notify me that the LHR-SIN flight has been rescheduled from 20.00 to 14.05. I shall not be able to get to Heathrow from deep rural Wales in time for that flight. They say "We will be calling you soon to confirm the flight and to rebook your connections."

When they phone me what are likely to be my options? I checked the online timetable and it still shows the original timing for that flight. Have they really got rid of that late departure? On all weekdays? If so, even travelling a day earlier or later would require me to stay overnight at a Heathrow hotel - considerable extra cost and time wasted.

Do I have fewer options as an award traveller than I would as a full-fare passenger? Does anyone know where I can access the revised timetable so as to work out in advance of the phone call what my preference might be?

There are 4 flights per day LHR-SIN as per below, as they recently added a 4th flight, however they have been cancelled a few flights here and there due to loads, but since your flight is so far away I am not sure they would be doing that yet!

Apparently the schedule changes in March TO this which is different from the current schedule. Maybe they are not going ahead with the timing changes after all then ?

SQ317 LHR1130 – 0720+1SIN 388 D
SQ305 LHR1405 – 0955+1SIN 388 D
SQ319 LHR2035 – 1625+1SIN 77W D
SQ321 LHR2205 – 1755+1SIN 388 D

I'd be politely demanding to be put on the later flight be that 9pm, 10pm, 11pm or midnight, depending on what they have in their systems!

SQ305 is the 77W & SQ319 is the 388. We are on SQ319 also in May, & it has moved from 1830 to 2035. This is a bit better for us as it reduces our wait in SIN by 2 hours. My awards were BMI DC, but when I got the email I rang SQ (had to go to the KrisFlyer line) & the agent hadn't heard of BMI, but he put a note on our booking to say we were happy with the change, & advised that we wouldn't need to contact DC to re-issue the ticket. The original PNR is still showing on the SQ Mobile website with the new times, & still has our seat selection unchanged.

I don't know what class the OP is booked in, but from a quick look I just had, there seems to be plenty of J saver award space on most flights in May, so I would advise him to get onto SQ ASAP & try to switch to either SQ319 or SQ321.

Very many thanks to both of you.Thinking it best, on your advice, to pre-empt their phone call, I have just been on to SQ, the KrisFlyer number, and the outcome is considerably better than I had feared. In fact I have been re-booked on SQ321 dep. 22.05, which would have been my preferred flight all along, but it had no award availability at the time of my original booking. The best seat available on it is not quite as good as the one I had on SQ305, but good enough so I am actually quite pleased with the way this has turned out.

Well done. IMHO it helps to be proactive - gives you a chance to snag the flight you want before everyone else gets in on the act.
