So I have been trying to book 2 x PAX for BNE – SIN - KUL return in Y+ so that I can use points to upgrade. Finally found the right flights and times and tried to book it online.

Every time I tried to complete the booking it wanted to confirm cabin class was mixed. KUL leg in Y. When I confirm it just spits me back to the start.

I end up calling SQ to try and book but their CS tells me a price that is $1500 more than online. That I can only book that special price via online. So very frustrating I give up.

I end up just booking BNE – SIN on a (P) ticket which clearly states is upgradeable. However once I book it, it fails to let me upgrade online. I call the CS again and am told that (P) is NOT upgradeable.

“Wait” This ticket is upgradeable and I need you to either upgrade it or cancel the flight. After 3 more calls and call backs finally they accept this and let me transfer points.

Then they want to tell me that the points required to upgrade the seat is nearly twice as many as I know it to be. So I have to tell them how many points it is.

Finally they accepted the (P) ticket and finally they upgraded me to (J) with the correct amount of points.

However, this was a truly frustrating couple of hours and I wonder how other people with less knowledge would get on.

My guess is that they wouldn't. They would either pay the more expensive amount, more points or just give up.

It is a fun game this :)
