Hi,

I have a classic rewards flight booked DRW-BNE-AKL, on one of the legs, I would like to stop over in BNE for a day or two, can I split the connecting flight into two parts, and allow one day in between? Obviously it cannot be done online, but wonder if calling the hotline can get this sorted.

Thank you!

Probably unlikely. Depending on flight schedules, it might be possible to change one to give you close to 1 day layover but usually once you go over 24 hr connection time it’s considered a stopover and costs more $ or in rewards speak, seperate flights/segments and points (eg DRW-AKL booking becomes DRW-xx_//xx_-AKL).

You could try playing with the multi-sector tool to see if combos are available for the same points/fees and call up to change.

I am not sure what is happening at the moment, but usually Qantas will look at the two flights as being 'married segments' and may not unmarry them. Generally the GDS views it as a journey from origin to destination, so it will all depend on whether the consultant is willing to unmarry the flights, and it may trigger a fare difference.

I think the scenario you mention is where two flights are only available when sold together. So for example BNE-AKL is not available by itself, but is available if you 'marry' it with another segment (in this case DRW).

I don't think this will be an issue in this case. It would be a reprice of the award if necessary.

And here I thought QF is no longer splitting or adding stops in a reward booking ... unless the ticket can be cancelled and re-booked under a different PNR ... I could be wrong - but when I did try to add a MEL segment in my SYD-CBR J reward, I was not allowed ... I was happy to change all legs to Y, still no ... so had to cancel the SYd-CBR J and book a new SYd-MEL-CBR leg under a new PNR

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The rules should allow a change proposed by the OP if the itinerary is completely unflown: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/freque...ms-and-conditions.html#classic-flight-rewards

14.7.4 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward after ticketing and prior to commencement of any travel and will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:
(a) change to flight number;
(b) change to date of travel;
(c) change to class of travel;
(d) change to any Segment routing or airline;
(e) change to name (only for Flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket that are operated by Qantas); and
(f) request to cancel ticket and re-credit Qantas Points. Please note that only Qantas Points that would not have expired will be re-credited.
Further provisions apply if - presumably - the itinerary has been partly flown:
14.7.5 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward flight before departure of that flight, provided the entire booking contains only Flight Segments that are within Australia, and will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:
(a) change to flight number;
(b) change to date of travel;
(c) change to class of travel; and
(d) change to a direct or indirect Segment routing without a Stopover (provided the origin and destination cities remain unchanged) or airline.
14.7.6 Subject to this clause 14.7, the following changes are permitted to a Classic Flight Reward flight before departure of that flight, provided the booking contains one or more Flight Segments that are not within Australia, and the Flight Segment(s) being changed do not include a partner airline that requires a ticket to be reissued for the change. Any such change will incur a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger:
(a) change to flight number; and
(b) change to date of travel.
