Well it is a good thing they are trailing spirits... so at the very least lots of feedback about keeping them would be a good thing.

Can I suggest that everyone who doesn't like the selection just takes one for the team and order something ???
We have to start somewhere :D :p

Surely the way to keep the spirits would be to give feedback like:

"Thank you, management are superstars, but I won't be drinking that much of the spirits."

Nah, the only feedback they will understand IMHO is either the grog was consumed or it wasn't.
If the latter it's back to beer, wine and soda.
So drink up, it's your civic duty ;)

I was kinda thinking if they thought it wouldn't cost them much, they might be more inclined to keep it on ....

I always do my civic duty, though.

I'd say they are looking to see how much it affects the overall alcohol cost at the lounge - i.e. will a reduction in beer/wine consumption offset having the spirits.

It is an offence for crew to allow intoxicated passengers onboard an aircraft in Australia. (CAR 286)

But... ON the plane is still OK, right?

Fond memories of my first-ever international flight as a doe-eyed 19-year-old, flying from MEL-LAX on a work trip, and realising that they would bring me free booze whenever I asked: heaven at the age of 19. I believe I was on my 7th or 8th request for a G&T when the flightie came back with a bottle of tonic water, a bottle of gin, and a container of ice, and said "If I leave this with you, I can trust you not to do anything stupid, right?" and, when I nodded, "Great. I'm going to go get some sleep". Those were the days…

Referring to the pax in the photo, in order to qualify for spirit consumption is it mandatory to be wearing a singlet and 'poo-catcher' pants?

Only when requesting bundy shots at 11am

The next seance is starting soon :D

Good start. A vodka and orange or gin and tonic is good before a flight.

Is that what they are called? Love it.

There's tonic at the VA lounge? I guess I've never spotted it because I don't usually have it without gin..

If there isn't tonic I found Schweppes LemonLimeOrange mineral water a fantastic alternative to mix with gin.

I've found the BA G&T one of the better one's in-flight and they use Gordon's. Maybe it's an altitude thing as I prefer others at ground level

Just another update relating to the spirits trial:

The trial ends on Monday according to one of the staff members I was talking to. They've been told that they're mainly gauging the response of travelers through social media.

They also told me that if you want to continue seeing spirits in the lounge, posting to VA through social media is the best course of action.

Hopefully it'll be a successful trial...

I can confirm they do indeed have tonic and a variety of other soft drinks now available in cans at the VA lounge in SYD.

Looks like a lady to me. so that would be a blouse not a singlet...
