SPG! Going for Gold!

My SPG Gold is due to expire end of Feb, wonder if this will renew it using this promo?

Sad day my SPG Gold has expired and I was a couple of stays short of renewing! :(
Customer support offered me Platinum challenge for 18 days stay in 3 month period.
But I average only 7-10 days per 3 months.

I might give this Mastercard promotion a go to see if it works.

If you have a world MasterCard there is a free upgrade to Gold after one stay promo until next year.

Thanks for this heads-up, markis10.
Saw this thread just prior to booking 4 Points Sheraton Darling Harbour in January, registered for the promo and changed card details to my Combank Debit MC to make the booking.
Using the MC also gave a stay3 pay2 deal so the basic room I booked averaged at $130/night.
As usual for me at 4Points DH, scored a harbour view upgrade to sweeten it even further (they've upgraded me every stay as SPG Gold).
New membership year - March statement shows Gold again even though I didn't qualify with Stays/Nights, so great call!
The Gold bennies are really handy for me and I have a lot more travel this year, so thanks again!

Seems to have worked for me: my MC is a Commonwealth Business Debit card (used in January) Gold status is showing as current on the latest statement (today). :)
Had nowhere near enough stays/nights to re-qualify otherwise

I have one of these world mastercards but I am a bit confused about the promotion saying that an upgrade will occur after making a booking in the "Asia-Pacific" region.

I have a trip in June to the US where I could rack up 20 Starwood nights easily so the Gold status would be ideal. Does this mean I will not get gold as the US does not count as "Asia-Pacific"?

The promo finished on March 31, so no luck!

Been extended a little (and US is in North America, rather than Asia Pacific (Starwood Preferred Guest - Hotel Offers and Loyalty Program spg.com)

I've just been upgraded to Gold after my last stay but not sure how?

I remember enrolling but it was around the start of April but ended up using a Visa card to pay.

Gold status is reached after completing 10 stays or 25 nights in a calendar year.

My account is showing: 11 nights since 2012 2 stays ytd / 8 nights ytd

Oh well can't complain. :)

Fortunately this promotion is still open

When I signed up for the CBA Diamond Amex, I didn't realise that the accompanying Mastercard had these benefits. A nice bonus.
My next stay though is a group booking at a Westin for a conference. It says group bookings don't count though, so I don't like my chances. I'm hoping it might slip through though :)

I used the promo last month for a 2 night stay at the Westin in Melbourne. About 1 week later my status was upgraded to gold. Woot woot!

Hi all,
I tried to register using my Commbank Smartaccess Debit Mastercard but the website return an error saying my first 6 digit is invalid. Is it only specific debit card that works or only World Elite Mastercard credit card only nowadays? Anybody tried the Platinum Debit Mastercard which came with the Bankwest Qantas Transaction account for this promotion?
Why does the website only wants the first 6 digit? I assume its a code ie all World Mastercard / World Elite will have the same first 6 digits?
Thanks for any advice.

Dear Markis10,
Thanks for that. I will try it. So register with this numbers then pay with any mastercard debit/credit card?

Yes, although in my case a few years back it did not matter what card I paid with.

I paid with my Amex and got the Gold 2 months or so ago. Got gold through to end of 2016.

edit: my mistake, only got the gold till Feb 2016

I registered with the old offer and did a stay last weekend on the Amex. Hopefully it comes thru in the next few weeks!

Good luck, you will know when your stay registers on your profile

Please let me know if it works. I don't have a world MasterCard, but registered with marksis numbers (cheers for that). I had already booked a one night stay in Melbourne Sheraton suite for $399 on Amex. And am staying for 4nights in a basic room in langkawi end of July so it would be awesome if I could have gold and be upgraded. Also just registered for the double triple points promo which is another win. As accom was already booked.
