SPG announces Four Points Brisbane to open Jan 2014

There is nothing special about the Four Points brand that makes it worth staying in your hometown. If SPG will ever open a W or St. Regis then it's another story...

That depends on the need for a cheap, stay or two for status or a promotion.

The 4Points in Australia are far better than other of their properties in the USA. In fact, many Americans are shocked when they come here.

I don't like the brand, I prefer the upmarket brands.

The Four Points in SYD is often more expensive then Sheraton and Westin.
It's a category 5 hotel, means it's not cheap for an award stay either.
It's a nice hotel and I'm happy to stay there if the price is right but with no lounge and no valet parking it's not the best choice for the business traveller.

I have been on site a bit during the commissioning testing / certifying of the buildings mechanical services (A/C Ventilation / stair well pressurisation / exhaust systems etc) at the Four Points BNE. It's good, new (obviously)clean lines, but pretty basic......... Opening prices seem good given the rates in Brisbane for what it is ....... it will be a more than reasonable 'utilitarian' good upper mid range option first up ..... It will be interesting to see how it ages ...............

Re the Brisbane Sheraton / now Brisbane Sofitel ..........

It was opened by Sheraton in 1984, and operated as a Sheraton for 20 years. ........

When it was first built there was a fairly major drama ........ In one of the better Brisbane construction 'stuff up' (there have been a few classics over the years) the high level fire stair wells for emergency egress were not compliant with the prevailing code / standards as constructed .......they where built to narrow and could not be corrected.

In effect they were to narrow to allow a given number of persons to travel down - The relevant 'Fire' service authorities really went to town on it for many reasons. (they would not be able to go up when others were coming down - injury concerns yada yada) The fire service authorities would not certify the space for occupancy.

As a result in order to obtain the current equivalent of a C. of O. (certificate of occupancy) they had to limit the number of persons that could occupy the upper level at any given time. It was originally a, for the time, very high end restaurant in the property........

Unless there has been a monumental re work I'd assume such limitations would still apply in some form as an ongoing condition of occupancy.

I don't think that 'stuff up' has ever been repeated in Brisbane since ........It was a very big issue in the day.

Back in the late 90's they had an excellent club lounge up there, that would help explain why

Brisbane 4pt currently has a very big construction site right next door.

Brisbane 4pt currently has a very big construction site right next door.

Errrr calling the site next door 'big' is bit of understatement quokka77 ..... It is going to be 'construction site CENTRAL' around the Four Points for the next few years I'm afraid.
The project next door is known as '111+222', it is a very large site with two (2) parallel CBD street frontages.

111 Mary ....right next door to Four Points (@99 Mary St.) is going to be the baby of the towers at only 34 levels.
222 Margret.... right behind is the 'Whooper' at 90 levels. This tower actual had to be reduced from it first proposed height of 297m down to 274m, a decrease of 23 metres due to the massing of the building being deemed to created a shadow for Brisbane Airport’s radar!
Of interest a 380 room 5 star hotel is part of the 90 level tower .....but an operator for the hotel is not yet been announced.

You will be able to bet your first born that the Tripadvisor reviews for the Four Points property are going to raise construction site noise issues, yada yada in due course.
I was actually on site for some final certification works on Friday and I will post a few picture of the 4Pt in the next few days......

In the interim here is the proposed image for 111+222

A few quick pictures I took while at the Four Points BNE site late last week...

Below -Street front is short but goes back deep - narrow build

FOUR PT STREET FRONTAGE.jpg

Below - Front narrow street tower view - Major 111+222 project site directly next door...left of picture. One of the crane jibs clearly in view, so to say the 4PT is going to be right next to a major construction site is 100% hard fact unfortunately.

Below - Front of house - small functional but bland typical 4 star factory gate.

Bellow - Small Coffee bar right on street front - cups / bags of beans already in .......

I'm just hoping that this Four Points has good style about it.

Good style in Brisbane (in fact, probably in SEQ) hotels are in very short supply (with some very, very noted exceptions).

Limes Hotel or The Inchcolm?

Here's a shot of the construction site. Four Points is on the left and Oaks 212 Margret is on the right. If the construction noise levels are similar to that of Four Points, the guest reviews won't be flattering for at least 2 years. We haven't seen many guests at the Oaks for over 12 months. Anyone who is a early riser won't have a problem with the 7am start.

Floor to ceiling windows with 1 touch block out blinds, a real winner.

Total black out once fully shut. Brilliant.

Altitude Bar located up on Level 30. 270º wrap around views. Strangely, you have to walk through the gymnasium to get to the bar.

Restaurant.

Thanks for sharing..
It looks simple & fresh. :D

Like many hotels taking over other properties, very similar to the existing property that was inherited. Just with a few brand marks on it.

Still, a boon for the SPG crowd.

This is a brand new building.

This is a brand new building.

Oh well, my mistake. The decor just seems to mirror the properties that are in the immediate vicinity, or at least the style (or lack thereof).

Was meant to open yesterday 3rd March....anyone stayed yet....any reports from actual guests. My inaugural stay will be on Friday
