I have been on site a bit during the commissioning testing / certifying of the buildings mechanical services (A/C Ventilation / stair well pressurisation / exhaust systems etc) at the Four Points BNE. It's good, new (obviously)clean lines, but pretty basic......... Opening prices seem good given the rates in Brisbane for what it is ....... it will be a more than reasonable 'utilitarian' good upper mid range option first up ..... It will be interesting to see how it ages ...............
Re the Brisbane Sheraton / now Brisbane Sofitel ..........
It was opened by Sheraton in 1984, and operated as a Sheraton for 20 years. ........
When it was first built there was a fairly major drama ........ In one of the better Brisbane construction 'stuff up' (there have been a few classics over the years) the high level fire stair wells for emergency egress were not compliant with the prevailing code / standards as constructed .......they where built to narrow and could not be corrected.
In effect they were to narrow to allow a given number of persons to travel down - The relevant 'Fire' service authorities really went to town on it for many reasons. (they would not be able to go up when others were coming down - injury concerns yada yada) The fire service authorities would not certify the space for occupancy.
As a result in order to obtain the current equivalent of a C. of O. (certificate of occupancy) they had to limit the number of persons that could occupy the upper level at any given time. It was originally a, for the time, very high end restaurant in the property........
Unless there has been a monumental re work I'd assume such limitations would still apply in some form as an ongoing condition of occupancy.
I don't think that 'stuff up' has ever been repeated in Brisbane since ........It was a very big issue in the day.
