I started 2012 as NB having once in my lifetime reached PS. Thanks to a double SC offer coinciding with a burst of flexi fares I've finally cracked it. looking forward to experiencing the Sydney first lounge next year.

Congratulations.

If you wait until next year you may not be able to get into the First Lounge.

Re: WP for the first time ever

Just some pessimistic speculation - unlikely to happen IMHO as F/L access for WP/Emerald flying oneworld will remain for the foreseeable future.
As opposed to positive speculation? All you have to do is look at the way Gold has been enhanced in the past 12 months to get an idea of what has been happening.

And there is panic going on right now. I think they rushed the Emirates merger and Oneworld has reacted to that decision and now they have changed the notice period of changes from 6 months to 3 months.

Also I know it is just speculation but I see any change to increase QFF points in lieu of taxes and surcharges decreasing as a serious devaluation. I value QFF points a lot more than they way the airline would value them.

Why?

To go to the USA via SYD-LAX one way on a classic economy award costs 48K points and $456.

There are fuel fines of $340 making up those taxes - lets say 0.9¢ per point so to include the fuel fine in the points would make for 86K and $116.

There was no need to split off the thread. Deleting the posts would have been better.

My point exactly as I value those points at 2.5c/point so in your example I am paying 38,000 more points to save a piddly $340. Not everyone runs a business and earns more points they could ever spend sensibly.

I would hate to think of the new point cost for the Oneworld award.

Re: WP for the first time ever

agree this did not deserve a new thread.

How has gold been devalued recently??
The most recent change was a bump in WP and SG status bonuses.

Gold has not been devalued.

From memory Silver had an increase of status bonus to 50% and Gold to 75% and now Gold also has access to the same seats as a Platinum for domestic flights at T-80 hours.

And then Platinum One was created. Not a new level but another nail in the coffin. Waiting for the next enhancement.

Re: WP for the first time ever

Make hay while the sun shines I say (think I borrowed that mantra), things change, isn't life about enjoying what you have and making the most of it while you can, with the odd dash of compassion for your fellow human thrown in for good measure?? Life is wasted on those preoccupied by things they have no control over.

I thought everyone has access to the same seats at T-80, pending PCV?

Re: WP for the first time ever

It is not like I started this thread.

It was one tiny comment....
You made the off topic post that caused the split ...

... and you have commented more then once, one of the comments was not tiny.

I still believe Qantas are not going to make significant changes in the current climate. If it weren't for DJ things would be different. (I Still smile at those despairing of the QP catering these days - they should have seen the pittance provided during the couple of years after AN went under ...)

Sometimes things happen for a reason. And other times.... well ....

... and you commented more then once, one of the comments was not tiny.
But the first comment was only congratulations.

I hope you are right.

I basically take this point of view, I don't think there are going to be any large downgrades.

(As someone that gained platinum shortly after the Ansett thing, the catering was indeed dreadful!))

Re: WP for the first time ever

Why would it make sense to cut off F lounge access to WPs? Then QF would have all this capital invested in lounges that would be underutilised. Flying to retain WP is ultimately profitable for QF and a big motive for a lot of people would be F lounge access. They also want to keep WPs and their significant spend with QF rather than leaking to rivals.

I am not saying you are preoccupied by it either, just a general comment that worrying about things which we cannot control is a waste of time.

But if nobody did that, this forum would be hardly worth visiting:rolleyes:
