Southwest Airlines

I need to travel from Las Vegas to San Francisco in January, Southwest seems to offer the most flights between the two cities and low fares.
Has anybody flown with them? How do they compare to Jetstar?
Is there an airline that I could earn QF FF points on that offer non stop flights, it seems AA flights are through LAX.

Southwest are a reasonably good low cost airline IMO. I have used them several times.... can't say how they compare to Jetstar as I have never tried the latter. Southwest don't allocate seats so there is a bit of a rush to line up; if you are travelling with children, are disabled or elderly you get first pick. The worst part is their awful food - a generally a really trashy snack with 100% sugar and 0% nutrition. But apart from the food their service is fine & the planes are good. You won't get any inflight entertainment, but then you often don't with AA either - even in 1st class.

Check out Jet Blue, not sure if they fly there but I think a better airline than both the above, more comparable to Australias Virgin Blue but with really good free inflight entertainment. But you won't get Qantas eligible FF points of course.... if you need that you will have to stick with AA. Can't beat the SC & FFP earning value of AA's discount 1st class, even if it does lack frills.

Ted, UA's less frills arm, is another non-stop option. You get points for any *A FFP (including minimum miles where applicable).

Just check exactly which airports will be used. There are several in the San Francisco area, and don't assume that South West will be using SFO. That may not be an issue unless you are looking to connect to/from another flight. As fas as I know, there is only one airport at LAS so should not be a problem at that end.

Its a short flight so don't expect any food from any airline operating that route. Eat at the airport or hotel before/after the flight.

I would not hesitate to use South West airlines on that route.
