I overheard a converstaion the other day with respect to the usual SYD-MEL run. The NAB exec in question was surprised that his counterpart flew commercial, albeit biz for the 55 minutes. Has anyone flown a charter between SYD and Mel (or anywhere else for that matter) - if you get 8 or 10 mates together is it worth it?

Anyone up for the Birdsville races?

Ozjet does charters. Maybe we need a AFF charter day to the races :D

You can hire small planes / executive planes to take you places if you want. Gotta have lots of $$$ to do it though. Some companies even own their own planes, as do most State Governments and the Federal Government.

You could even charter a Virgin Blue / Qantas plane completely if you had the spare money.

I did look at charters to get to a remote location for work once . The figures weren't too bad (especially compared to the expensive Y type fares on offer) when there are a few people- but the real killer was the overnight stay required. That shot the prices right out as the pilot either flew back straight away and had to return the next day, or you had to pay for the plane and pilot to sit idle

I used to do that in my old days at Mobil Aviation - the company policy was 2 engines and 2 pilots. No wonder Avgas costs so much.

FIFO mining operations often charter planes with full crews. it can get pretty expensive i think.

one place i worked for chartered a helicopter at $800 per hour for the their exploration season which was about 8 weeks during the 'summer' months. It was nice knowing that as we flew around exploring the artic tundra landing in different places for about 5 hours one afternoon!

I was on charter flights during my trip last week to Perth. The company chartered a SkyWest plane for PER/Busselton/Albany and then a Skippers charter flight for Albany/Perth. There were ~ 30 pax on board, so well worth this company doing it as they had a lot to show us in two days.

Plus better looking FA's

Did they look after you well at the footy, ie corporate suite, or general seating?

Alas, they piked out on us....some of them went out to dinner, but I stayed at hotel room watching it on the telly and trying to figure out my new Nokia N70 mobile (my Nokia 6610 finally shat itself and refused to work).

Hah hah no.. Last time I checked Air NZ didn't do events. Unless you call going bankrupt and running a great Australian airline into the ground an event :D
