........Q lounge, for me, is crowded, less personal/private, and has terrible ambience - hate the open air location. And lastly, there always seems to be lots of noisy yobbos in Q lounge, which i find annoying when i am tired after busy schedule.
This for me is the issue with the QP at HKG!
It just seems too open plan to really relax even if the food is better. For me it's the CX lounges every time.

I have to agree with these posts. The QP at HKG is very average for me. It always seems busy and often finding a seat is a problem. I always start at the CX Wing and move onto the Pier. The last couple of trips when travelling QF I did not even bother going to the QP.

I'm not a fan of the QF lounge: crowded and noisy before the evening QF departures. However it is a leaps and bounds improvement on the previous separate F lounge and J dungeon (my goodness, have I just supported the joint lounge concept? I need more wine). What I will say though is that if you can't be bothered schlepping on the train up to CX Pier J then QF is perfectly fine to while away an hour or two; it's in a different universe to the 'home' J lounges in SYD and MEL.

I used to be a "'go to the operating airline's lounge just before departure" kind of guy but nowadays I stay in Pier F as long as possible for QF and BA flights and walk to the gate for boarding. If I didn't have OWE I'd happily sit in Pier J.

It is true QF Lounge at HKG does get packed as there's SYD/BNE/MEL all within a short period of time so does get packed

I suppose if one needs/wants QF specific services (flight related) then it's obviously the best place to be

I don't get the attraction of the wing. I thought the QF lounge was superior.

I can't speak for the Pier but in the Qantas lounge I recommend the barbecued pork & rice. That always seems to be around. The 'buffet' and 'plate of the day' vary - the latter is only served in the evening prior to the Qantas flights back to Australia. I also recommend their signature coughtail - Chi Chi, a pineapple & rum mixture.

Some like to check out multiple lounges in Hong Kong. It would only make sense for me if I was flying CX and/or had a departure gate at the far end of the airport (i.e. beyond Gate 40). Since I'm only ever flying QF out of HKG I stick to the QF lounge - I spent 6 hours there in July when my working day finished early & couldn't go back to the hotel having checked out. I had checked in at Hong Kong's in-town check in so could proceed to the airport that early.

+1

Roaming lounge staff will walk around 1-2 hours before the main bank of QF flights leave and ask if you want the dish. The BBQ pork and rice is decent, as are the little bites they wheel around on a trolley:

The problem I find with going to the QF lounge is that it is like ending your trip early as the vibe is very Australian. So it depends whether you are wanting to feel 'at home' or 'on holiday'. I recall the coffee was quite good - I can't recall getting good coffee in CX lounges - posh china and silver spoon like a flash back to the 50s - but not good coffee.

And yet some people really like that feeling of getting on a QF aircraft after a holiday and feeling like they are "coming home" and I suppose that extends to the lounge a little bit too. If you're flying QF out of HKG then you are on the way to Australia so I think it's fine myself. each to their own :)

Similar to the QF lounge? I think the Wing is very different to the Pier and I actively avoid the lounge. It often gets crowded because ti's the first lounge people come across. The Pier is about as close as you get to an F lounge in terms of fit-out. The Wing is firmly in the business class category.

I guess we are all different.

I find the food offerings in the Wing and Qantas lounge similar. I love buffet style where I see what's available and choose accordingly. I wouldn't describe the Wing F lounge as a business lounge and it is nothing like the Wing business lounge.

The Pier F lounge has no character. It is dark. It is boring. I'm not a fan of the dining room but others like it. Not my first choice of lounge unless I am nearby.

We were discussing the Wing J, not F :)
