Hi all,

I am well aware that qantas has a unpublished soft landing policy for tier downgrades but does this apply to platinum ones?

Thanks in advance

I'd be surprised if the landing was down to Partner Gold as PG is only one of several options now upon reaching 2,400SCs. I would though be disappointed if the landing was down to Gold given how hard it is to reach P1, particularly the QF-code only element (no Qantas flights to India, grumble, grumble...) ;)

It's a good question and I don't think we are going to get an answer unless/until Red Roo advises, or we have a situation where an existing P1 earns fewer than 1200 SCs in the subsequent year and lets us know what occurs (and I see very little chance of that person being me).

Out of interest (I don't recall seeing it noted), is the P1 requalification bar set a little lower, a la WP requiring 1200 SCs for requalification the following year as opposed to 1400 for initially attaining?

PG is not a membership level, rather it is an additional loyalty bonus after reaching 1200 SCs above WP.

I was under the impression it was a level as it counts down in your activity statement like the other levels. Xx amount of credits to go for platinum additional benefits..

If a Platinum One member is unable to attain 3,600 Status credits (including a minimum 2,700 on QF marketed Flights) in their next membership year, they will be automatically reassessed to the Platinum level regardless how many status credits they earned. Hope this helps. :)

Surely we all will be in this situation eventually?! I really don't want to die a P1, a little time with family first would be nice... ;)

Agree, I guess I meant I don't see my travel stopping all of a sudden. I do enough personal travel with family to maintain platinum and work makes up the remainder.

Interesting you say that because in my QFF summary it mentions how many SC credits I need for additional Platinum benefits (I still need 2400 SCs) and makes no mention of how many SCs required for vanilla Platinum.

So if I was to have <1,200 SCs for the year would I drop to vanilla Platinum or Gold? I know the answer but I can see how someone can be confused by looking at their QFF summary.

I was under the impression that P1 included a year of Platinum when you fail to keep P1, but can't see this written on the Qantas website, or am very tired at this time of night. But good to see Red Roo confirming it.

This happened to me after my new membership year started however all of a sudden both the requal amount appeared as well as the 2400 additional benefits part also appeared. Can't remember off out was a few weeks or a month after my membership year started..

I don't think you will find anything about soft landings for any of the levels on the Qantas website.

I wasn't talking about any of the levels though. I'm sure I read something when P1 launched that stated that if you failed to reach P1 in a subsequent year, you'd receive Platinum, no matter what. I can't find the text now, but I'm sure there was text to that effect. I remember discussing P1 with certain members, about why it was good to aim for it bearing in mind how long they'd remain OWE.

On that theme, what about a Platinum that only has the 4 legs the following year, and doesn't get anywhere near even silver? Is it a progressive step by step down the "dreaded downwards escalator" of status? Will I at least retain gold if I only do the minimum 4 flights in the subsequent year?

That is how I understand it works (though no personal experience - yet). :)

If you meet the minimum requirement of 4 QF flights each year then you will go from Platinum -> Gold. The same from Gold -> Silver.

If you do not meet the minimum requirement of 4 QF flights in any given year then you will in theory go straight to Bronze.

Must fly 4 times a year on QF or any OW airline?
