So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Sadly no driving for me in Shanghai. Just swapped an X5 & TT (Mid life crisis) for a 530li...

Audi has advised that my car's production is delayed and they aren't sure of an exact delivery date. And i only found this out because I rang them to organise arrangements for delivery which was originally scheduled for mid Jan. They were supposed to get back to me this past week with an updated date after conferring with Audi Australia but nada. :(

I'm wondering if this is sufficient grounds to get my deposit back and go with the Benz instead. Still love the A5 but not sure if it's worth the aggravation. Any car dealership 'insider' has any advice or am I screwed because the delivery date was an 'estimated' delivery date?

To their credit, Audi Melbourne seems amenable to letting me take delivery at one of their other dealerships in Brisbane (as the OH is potentially relocating up with me around Feb).

Note to self: Never order a new model before it's gone into production.

Couple months ago was driving home from shopping wife saw this nice looking coupe out front local Merc. dealer, went back and purchased next day after demo, the CLC200 not for everybody and not all that popular with motor journo's who seem hell spent on speed and upgrade niggles with this model.

Car was former Merc OZ car so came fitted with the works including sunroof 18" mags, low profiles, iPod connection and stack of other gear, only done 6.5ks, white in colour, 2010 paid $14k under new price and got an excellent trade on our 4 year old Honda.

For just two of us and mainly me in car and only do about 7ks in a year, mostly around town it suits us fine, its comfortable, has lots of gadgets and has all the speed we need. Had quite a few admirers even thumbs up while driving, some standing on footpath looking at it, others asking questions, its really weird.

Interesting this isn't it? I 've got one of these as well. All the journalists hated them, but they were really popular with the public both here and in Europe. The hatchback look certainly isn't for everyone, and I have my doubts too, but its a surprisingly comfortable car considering its placed at the bottom end of entry models. Good economy, pretty nippy to (thanks to the supercharger) and for a commuter its served me really well for the last 3 years.

Heading for 70K Km on mine and its a beaut.

Landcruiser - Sahara

Very content & when I buy a new one I'm always very happy with the re-sale value.

Have to agree, journo's were wrong IMO, public like them, in our 16 apartment garage there are some real nice beasts one a late model Maserati, plus Golf GTI and HRT Grange, many residents had a look at the CLC200 coupe since and a few wanted a ride in it. My neighbour lives on planes so I drive him to/from the airport a bit. It really is a joy to have. Must say the Merc. dealer was excellent too, fitted the iPod bit for free (cost was $725)so can work it from wheel (rather than just volume), did full service before collection and fitted new No. plates too at no charge.

Lexus, but looking to add the new Rangie, Evoque.....anyone looked at these yet. getting good reviews overseas. haven't seen many on the road

Looked at the Evogue. Didn't like it. Too small for my liking. Hanging out for the new Range Rover Vogue next year.

2010 KXS AWD Black Kluger 7 seater... Never taken it off road...

2011 Outlander just purchased yesterday afternoon for Mrs Simo...

Last car was a 99 Commodore which was driven to the point that it was terminal. Over 2K to fix it... Most of it's past few years have been parked at every Shopping Centre in SEQ so every panel had a shopping trolley dent in it.

Klugers lease expires 2013 so will probably change it over close to end of next year.

Probably get another Calais. Liked the last one but the lease ran out on it.

Nice way to move!

It's beautiful... though, there are quite a few on the road these days so it's a bit mainstream now... husband wanted to get a RS5 recently but I vetoed him based on the fact that it looks much the same but better engine - whereas for the same money you could get something like a low end Maserati Quattro [aka my dream car]

So are Audi prices massively inflated or what? I know they're chasing volume but the gap between RRP and 'deal' pricing don't seem to be as big with the other brands. Would have gone with the Benz had I not got the deal I did with Audi, keeping in mind Benz's generally better resale.

As to RRP over sale price My dad liked my car we went to Audi Brighton, clocked up the options wanted. Price quoted was 73K and I said 11 months previous been quoted 58K.... Dealer said well make an offer! In other words that was a valid offer. In the end dad went for a Passat wagon diesel fully loaded, except Dyna audio for 48K drive away after 04' Territory TX trade in (11K).

Holdback is 2.5% at the very most. With Audi you will find that it is 1.5% up front with the extra 1% contingant on attaining sales target and customer satisfaction score.

Whilst the bottom line is less than 2% of turnover, the real money is made when selling your business and retaining the freehold for the delership.

Othe perks abound for owners. My favourite.... Paying for all the "on road costs" using a credit card which earns frequent flyer points. That can make you MILLIONS of points each year. (And back when AMEX was accepted with no surcharge, ensured you were one of the initial Australian residents offered a "Centurian Card". Which was declined as I refuse to pay a fee for a credit card)

Huh? What am I missing ? Aren't on road costs more like 10k??

In VIC 2.5% up to LCT Threshold. If above that then 5% of purchase price.

Bear in mind that the Dealer Principal/Owner usually chooses to pay for TOTAL on road costs of all cars sold, utilising their credit card.

In my instance that reaped me on average around 800k points per month from that alone. My yearly credit card spend was generally in excess of $10mil up until I sold my business's earlier this year.

Now as I am "unemployed" I will probably spend under $500k per annum so won't ever earn that number of points again. :-(

I have cancelled an Audi order before because of their incompetence and poor customer service and lack of following up with me in regard to a delivery date, that being said I used a clause in the contract to get out of it.

Generally with a new model OR when you pick some unique options they will give you a delivery date of 4-6 months.

BMW - Have always delivered well before the date
Audi - Stuffed up the first date, went to another dealer on principle and they delivered quite fast.. It was probably the same car that I had ordered originally though that the 2nd dealer took from the production line :D

Okay back to the T&C's from my last Audi purchase last year

9. Delays in delivery
1) The dealer shall make every reasonable effort to make the purchase vehicle available on or before the delivery date stated in this Contract. Where delivery is delayed more than 14 days the Purchaser may terminate this Contract

So there you go!

PS: If you paid the deposit on Amex ask for a bank cheque or bank deposit to get the money back, you can then keep the Amex points :D

Yes going to sell my Audi Q5 and order one in about April/May next year for a October delivery!

Haven't had a test drive yet and have seen 1 on the road in Melbourne!

It's either the X3 or the Evoque....

Evoque reviews are all more favorable than the X3, but again it's personal taste! I love the interior options on the Evoque so that's probably the selling point for me
