So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I get the bittsa comment however the RV8 was a genuine B and used the same body shell, I was/am not fussed it was part Rover. It was just a slightly redesigned, solid wheels, rubber bumper (painted body colour) etc. for the 1990's, and IMO the BMC/Rover last shot at the title. It didn't gain traction and by the mid 1900s, the MX5 and that ill fated ford capri we already in the market.

If I find the right one, I would most likely buy it and save what I would have spent on a Lotus.
I didn't know that and always thought the panels might have been a little larger in dimension. It looks larger...I have not seen one in the flesh in a while.

You are correct the panels are wider and the RV8 did look different but the underlying shell was basically the same and strengthened to take the 3.9 litre V8. Based on the above I did go back to google and most of what I new about the RV8 remains unchanged. It was a 90s creation limited to around 2000 and I think most went to Japan. It was the last B swan song prior to the MGF being introduced in the mid 90s. I am a self confessed MG tragic and may yet purchase another in the coming years and an RV8 maybe an option.

Over time I have flirted with acquiring a classic car, however was never able to convince myself.
Modern cars ( post wwII ) have all been built to have a limited life and while it is usually feasible to
maintain them mechanically, the challenge of maintaining bodywork and little things like instruments and trims defeated me.
A few friends have done some collecting of old machinery, cars and trucks but I decided the liabilities outweighed the fun factor by a large margin.
I did seriously consider some very early wheels but needed to upgrade my workshop[ to a small machine shop as support and canned the idea.
I do sometimes look at modern classics and get a twitch in my wallet but time has now beaten any aspirations...

@prozac there is part of me that wanted to ignore your comments about the RV8, @Mwenenzi you didn't help the cause. I seem to have spent the past couple of days going back to the RV8 around what is currently sale in AU, what is available in Japan etc. Importing from Japan is not of concern, if I could find the right one I would go through that process. I have looked into importing other Japanese cars in the past and did so with a mate. From the 3 that are currently available for sale in AU there is one I would have interest in, subject to additional information. The idiot switch in my head also flicked over and started thinking well how hard would it be to work on and maintain the Rover V8, MG used the same block in the original V8. The original 1.8 (B series donk) was the same that BMC, MG, Rover etc. used in many cars and was basically the same. The V8 is just another old engine and most likely just as easy to work on, it just has twice as many cylinders.

The one you would consider (23,000kms ?) has been for sale for around 12 months that I know of. I ask myself why.

Yes that is the one that sprang to mind. Didn’t realise it had been for sale for 12 months , I only saw it the other day. I have looked occasionally at them over the years. I would ask a lot of questions, have inspections done etc even before I was to look at it. For the T series, A’s and B’s I generally know what to look for, I can normally tell from photos or seeing the car if it is correct or not. I am no expert but know enough to be dangerous, the T series and A’s are easy. When it comes to B’s some get caught out, I have seen adds stating it was an original AU car, no rust, etc. but they were US imports. I am also aware of were MGs tend to rust so I would show up with a magnet, if it didn’t stick to where it was meant to I would most likely walk away from the deal.

The RV8 has me thinking.
