So it looks likes no % bonus to move CC points to QF????

Not sure I would say a 24 hour AFF survey is indicative of what is actually happening in the real world outside of AFF.

Also if you look at the actual AFF survey results a little more closely for each credit card program you will find that around 40-50% of people will convert all their credit card points and another 15-25% may transfer some or most of their points.

That leaves around 30-40% of people not transferring their points at all. In my opinion I would not call this move by QF successful....

I would say moderately successful but NOT what they had hoped for :!:

In the current economic climate I would expect that people would be more likely to redeem points for shopping vouchers, credits onto the cards etc, rather than lock into a scheme to get flights. So, I think some of their problem, as it turned out, was bad timing!

Which has been backed up by reporting in News Ltd (I think) recently - basically vouchers and fuel rewards are running out the door at Amex... I wonder why!

In the Amex case, though, there may be lots of bonus points to be burned though, which could account for some of that as well.

Interesting:

The number of American Express membership rewards scheme points used to buy petrol has increased 432 per cent and using points to pay bills is up 81 per cent.

Not sure why petrol vouchers would be so high, but those percentages suggest bonus point burning to me. (I'm sure even sweeps to Qantas have gone up as well, just not so pronounced)

Would Qantas settle for moderatly successful? Not sure. But reading through the lines I would think that Qantas was hoping for close to 100% success on transfer of credit card points to QFF.

Qantas would not have seen Singapore Airlines, Velocity or even Aadvantage as direct competition for credit card points and would have expected an overwhelmng majority of Australinas would stay loyal to Qantas....

I think that any company with such a FF dominant position, as QF has in Australia, would not be satisfied with such a transfer being "moderately successful".

....

I'm not really sure either way myself as I as a member of the public, reasonably informed one (!), don't have enough information to make a call.

We can all speculate till the cows come home on how they have defined 'success' - but at the end of the day that is an internal QF measure that unless it is disclosed to the public means everyone else really is just guessing.

If they don't reach their benchmark I suspect there are many many ways they can get there post 31 March. Leveraging the new WOW tie up harder, offering great new direct cards with new bonus sign ups etc to get people in... -> hopefully they do ;)
