Hi,

I didn't qualify for this idea but AAdvantage is offering platinum status at http://www.aa.com/i18n/urls/eliterenewal.jsp?anchorLocation=DirectURL&title=eliterenewal for people who qualify. If you buy platinum then you get oneworld lounge access through till the end! It said on viewfromthewing you needed at least two qualifying segments so not sure what that means in terms of flying Qantas.

You'd get a host of other benefits too and you can outright buy it for 769 USD.

Perhaps you don't understand: It's essentially buying your lost status back, i.e. useless to anyone who wasn't already AA Gold or Platinum in 2012.

That's how I read it too, still not a bad offer if you had the status and didn't earn it back. A one off too, you can't apply for it 2 years in a row.

Unfortunately its only available to people who has AA Gold of Platinum status in 2012. It would be really nice (for me) if they offered this to Executive Platinum members too. Alas I drop to Platinum at the end of February.

Well the good news is you don't need to focus on re-qualifying next year as they'll probably offer this again ;)
