Sleep all they way - Look like Qantas are leveraging the new Seat's feature where

Qantas rolls out new business class seat on Singapore route | The Australian

QANTAS has chosen the Singapore route to introduce the international version of its new business class seat, which it believes will give it an edge over full-service rivals.
...

The Marc Newson-designed seat includes new cushioning, a 20 per cent bigger pillow and a new mattress and doona.

“We’re focused on Singapore and part of our strategy is we wanted to get penetration on one route so we could really, in a customer’s mind, say yes I’m going to get that product and experience it once,’’ Ms Morris said.

“So we’re really focused on Singapore and then we’ll look for penetration on other routes as the numbers allow us.’’

The new international seat allows customers to land and take off with a 25 degree recline and a “sleep sooner” service allows passengers to ask for the seat to be made up with the newly-designed mattress and doona before takeoff.

Seems you can opt for no meal service and so sleep almost all the way.

Could be good for those 7 hour ex SIN Red-eyes back to Oz.

Sounds good given the meal choices are probably going to be terrible anyway...

I guess the 9+ hour HKG flights are a bit different from the often as short as 6 hour flight time SIN red-eyes.

Really, anyone ex SIN on the night flights in QF business can dine pretty well in the available lounges before boarding.

For me the meal is an important part of the J experience but I understand other people don't care about that and just want to sleep as soon as they get onboard.
QF did a good thing here for everyone, pax who want to sleep more can do that and the rest will get a faster meal service, win win :)

With SQ fully booked up this weekend on SIN-PER (at four flights a day), maybe QF could put some 'focus' on that route.

The problem with the SIN overnight flights is that you can eat in the lounge, ask to miss the meal but others want their meal so lights on and noise.Found I couldn't sleep anyway last week.
Hopefully the new seat may make a bit of difference but it is only part of the problem.

I find a half Stilnox and dark eye shades and I'm not even aware of the food being served. :)

maybe it's a qantas thing... or aussie health and safety... but other airlines (including sq) can serve a meal in a dark cabin (no main lights). on their red-eye services those wanting to eat have their overhead light on, the rest sleep peacefully.

sq manages no noise from the galley, a dark cabin, and crew lightly stepping down the aisles to not disturb those sleeping.

wouldnt it be amazing if QF could 'penetrate' that culture and sensitivity into their service manuals!!

I wonder if the new refurb cabins will have new LED lighting installed? If so I wonder if they will use more dim or coloured mood lights during meal service?

Last one was on SQ and they couldn't manage any of those things.

I think the big sleeping problem for many (admittedly not everyone) is time of departure. I for one cannot sleep at 8:30pm even in my own bed. I prefer avoiding sleep medication so that means at best 3 or 4 hrs of sleep irrespective of hardware.

This though was an 0045 departure and even though tired just couldn't get to sleep.
Usually no problems. On a RJ BKK-AMM at the same sort of our I went to sleep as we took off.On a delayed BKK-SYD QF flight I went out to it as the CSM was talking to mrsdrron.Apparently he started talking to me and I was out to it.
This last flight though was very noisy.Obviously not one of SQ's A teams.
